“I’ve Been Listening To A Lot Of Ronnie Milsap… A Lot Of George Jones” — Ella Langley Talks About Inspirations For Next Album

Already cooking up the sophomore album. This week, Ella Langley appeared on the God’s Country podcast, where she of course talked about her viral, CMA Award-winning hit with Riley Green "You Look Like You Love Me," as well as sharing some details about her next record. Ella just put out her debut album Hungover in the summer, but she's already writing for the next one, saying she has the title ready, a plan for a music video, and all of the other creative parts that go into an album release ready to go: "I'm really excited about where I'm going next. I have the title for the next record, I have the music video planned out, I have the creative for it pretty much done. It's really organically fallen out... I'm really just letting God take the wheel, honestly. I have always believed that he wouldn't have put this passion on my heart so aggressively, so aggressively to the point where I would feel sick as kid thinking... like, going to concerts was kind of a miserable thing for me at a young age, because I would sit up there and I would want to do it so bad that I would feel sick to my stomach." She explained that this next album will focus more on who she is as a person and where she comes from, and I think it's safe to say that fans want to know more considering how much her career has taken off this year... Ella also added that she's been listening to a lot of Ronnie Milsap and George Jones as inspirations for the music, which I of course love and makes me really excited to hear what she's got in the works: "So, with this next record, I kinda wanna show that side a little more of me. The Alabama, who is Ella Langley, not just the songwriter or the artist, but the human being. I think there is a level of honesty in my songs that not everyone has, and I think that may be what's gonna set it apart a little bit, you know? But this next record, I'm so excited about it. I start every one of my writes right now with  this massive spiel... I've made this  whole playlist I listen to everyday of reference tracks just to kinda get me in the headspace of where I want it. It's gonna be groovy, country... I've been listening to a lot of Ronnie Milsap, if that gives you any indication, a lot of George Jones." Ella definitely has a bit of a rock edge to a lot of her music, and I think that's a cool sound, but it seems like this album might be going in a bit of a different direction musically, which will be fun to listen to and sounds very intriguing. Many artists can struggle with what many in the industry call a "sophomore slump," meaning someone who has a big and successful debut album can struggle to put out something equally as great, though it sounds like Ella isn't trying to recreate Hungover, but rather show off another side of her artistry, and I think that's a really solid strategy. She's already off to the races in terms of her career and one of the biggest up-and-coming names in mainstream country, so I think she's well on her way and the next project will be a big success no matter what direction she's taking it.
