Candace Cameron Bure Speaks Out 2 Years After “Traditional Marriage” Backlash
In April 2022, Candace Cameron Bure made a huge announcement. The Hallmark Channel staple decided to end her 13-year partnership in favor of a new opportunity. She now works with the Great American Family Network. At the time, Candace shared with the Wall Street Journal that part of her plan for the new network would be to keep “traditional marriage at the core” of the network’s programming. Her comment caused significant backlash, and the star had to deal with disgruntled fans. More than two years later, she reflected upon her time with the Hollywood Reporter.
“It certainly is difficult when talking to media outlets,” she said.

Candace Cameron Bure Feels People Misunderstood Her Comments
She said of the media coverage and subsequent backlash, “While we are grateful for media outlets that point people to our channels, there’s still always a risk because the answers can be written out of context,” she explained. “That certainly happened to me when moving over to Great American Family. And it was a really hard time, and to be misunderstood in that way was difficult.”
“But what I will say is that we are a relatively new channel,” Candace added. “This is only our fourth year in Christmas. Like any new business, you have your core demographic and what you’re looking for, and you’re going to produce the product that will best suit that audience.”
Candace Cameron Bure concluded she wanted to be part of something different, and Great American Family Network fit her desires. “Most networks are not trying to be all things to all people. What really differentiates our channel from some of the other ones out there is that we’re not afraid to talk about God and God’s hand in our lives instead of fate or providence.”
