Parker McCollum, Randy Rogers & William Beckmann Join Forces For Red Dirt Classic, “Oklahoma Breakdown”

Some Texas boys are playing an Oklahoma classic. There is nothing better than being on the road with some of your buddies and being able to close out the final shows of the year with them. Parker McCollum had a stellar 2024 and closed it out with a bang. From taking home an ACM Award and countless sold-out shows, including being a part of the largest concert in United States history with George Strait, to releasing new music and becoming a father, McCollum was going non-stop this year. "2024 was a damn good one…from becoming a dad, sold out shows, ACM win, #1 song, and getting to see so many of y’all out there. 2025 about to be another record year." https://www.instagram.com/p/DEQs6qeSQtw/?img_index=1 Given that McCollum has been hustling all year, that meant closing out the year on stage with some of his buddies. Before officially closing out the year on stage for Nashville's Big Bash on New Year's Eve, he closed out his touring schedule with shows in Little Rock and Oklahoma City with support from Randy Rogers and William Beckmann. While this group of men are Texas-born and bred, they decided to tip their hat to the state during their stop in Oklahoma City, bringing the classic tune, "Oklahoma Breakdown," to the stage. "Oklahoma Breakdown" was penned by Oklahoma local legend Mike Hosty. Although Hosty is the mastermind behind this classic song, it's probably the version cut by Stoney LaRue that made it so popular. Hosty never cared about fame and let other artists cover the song, and it took off when LaRue covered it as a part of his hit 2007 Live A Billy Bob's Texas album. LaRue finally recorded a studio version for his 2015 album Us Time. Another Oklahoma legend, Toby Keith, recorded it for his 2021 record Peso In My Pocket, and called up Hosty himself to play that signature slide lick. It's truly an all-time great single. At OKC's Paycom Center, McCollum fired up the single and invited Rogers and Beckmann to help him out on stage. McCollum laid down the song's first verse before Rogers and Beckmann sauntered out on the stage to assist with the lyrical delivery. "See, it's late now, I gotta get you home'Cause your mama don't like me and you being aloneI asked you a couple of times and you said it was all rightLet's go rootin' 'round the riverbed tonight Won't you tell me that you love me, if it's true? I don't want no one, baby, if I can't have youThis Oklahoma Breakdown sure do got you cryin'Let me tell you that I love you one more time..." William Beckmann takes the next verse after McCollum re-introduces them to the crowd. Randy Rogers came in on the chorus to help out, but until the song's end, he looked like he was having fun watching the band shred this song and was happy to jump in where needed. They might be Texas boys, but they did Mike Hosty and Stoney LaRue justice with this cover. What way to close out a year on the road.
