Riley Green Shares Beautiful Acoustic Rendition Of Hank Williams’ Classic, “(I Heard That) Lonesome Whistle”

A classic. Riley Green covers classic country music pretty often, and he tends to share them on social media for fans to enjoy, and they never disappoint. Today, he shared a video over on TikTok of an acoustic rendition of Hank Williams' "(I Heard That) Lonesome Whistle," which was written by Hank Williams and Jimmie Davis. It became Hank's fourteenth consecutive Top 10 single in 1951, after peaking at #8 on the Billboard country singles chart. Riley has talked many times about how he grew up listening to, and eventually playing, the oldies with his grandparents, and it never ceases to impress me just how much he truly knows about some of the greats. It's more uncommon than it should be to hear a current, more mainstream artist who is as popular as Riley is sing something like this, and I love that he always pulls these types of songs out of the archive and introduces a new audience that's likely never heard it before, unfortunately. The video is pretty short and sweet (well, the original song is too, I guess), but I love every second of it: @rileyduckman Hank. #acousticcovers #countrymusic #hankwilliams #rileygreen #lonesomewhistle ♬ original sound - Riley Green I've said before that I wish Riley would cut some of these truly classic country songs in the studio, because I think it would be so cool to hear something from Hank, or any other artist from around this time, done for a new generation of fans. He should have been nominated for way more, but there’s always another year, I guess… Riley will hit the road on his Damn Country Music Tour in March, and you can check out the full list of dates below.
