Late legend Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris Jackson, recently took to Instagram to celebrate five years of sobriety from heroin and alcohol. She shared a video compilation showing years of addiction, her struggles, and vulnerable moments of exhaustion. It ended with a portrayal of her growth as she showed off her sobriety badges and clips of her looking happier. Paris noted that she is 5 years clean in her caption, where she also listed the everyday joys she now relishes as a drug-free person. “I’ve found that life keeps happening regardless of whether I’m sober or not, but today I get to show up for it,” she added. At 15, Paris was clinically depressed and began self-medicating while also depending on substances to feel temporarily better. The 26-year-old was hospitalized several times and attempted suicide on a few occasions. She recalled experiencing overwhelming feelings of self-hate and low self-esteem, hence why she attempted to end it all. With the help of therapy and a will to get better, Paris overcame her vices and is now flourishing in her modeling career and in life, as she recently got engaged to Justin Long.
