Morgan Wallen’s ‘Dangerous: The Double Album’ Named Billboard’s #1 Album Of The 21st Century… So Far

The biggest album of the 21st Century... that might be Morgan Wallen's most impressive record yet. Today, Billboard named his Dangerous: The Double Album as the #1 album of the first 25 years of the 21st century, as it stands at the top of Billboard’s Top Billboard 200 Albums of the 21st Century chart. They gathered ranking from previous weeks the album spent on the Billboard 200 albums chart from the start of 2000 through the end of 2024, and Dangerous spent a whopping 158 weeks in the top 10. Billboard does the radio tracking that labels use to officially track their songs, or albums, performance and make calls on #1's and other positioning, so they have all the data and based this decisions on numbers, not opinions, which gives it a lot more weight. Billboard added: "After debuting at No. 1 on the weekly list dated Jan. 23, 2021, 'Dangerous: The Double Album' remained on top through the chart dated March 27, 2021, becoming the first album to spend its first 10 weeks at No. 1 since 1987, when Whitney Houston’s 'Whitney' logged all 11 of its weeks in the lead from its debut." Additionally: "'Dangerous: The Double Album,' Wallen’s second-full length, has continued to rack up chart feats since its buzzy arrival. When it reached its 86th week in the Billboard 200’s top 10 in September 2022, it surpassed Peter, Paul and Mary’s self-titled set (85 weeks in 1962-64) for the most time spent in the tier among albums by individual acts since the chart began publishing on a regular weekly basis in March 1956." https://www.instagram.com/p/DEnJIZtzG8j/ It's almost hard to comprehend how massive this album was, is and will continue to be, not only in country music but far beyond the genre, as well... but this type of record certainly puts it into perspective (whether you're a fan of his or not, you can't argue how big and impactful his music is). The fact that he bested megastars like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and so many others speaks volumes about his reach and popularity, which is really unprecedented for a country artist within the mainstream. It's no secret that country music is as popular as its ever been, and because of Morgan, obviously, as well as so many other great country artists, In 2024, Morgan wrapped up his record-breaking One Night At A Time Tour, in addition to being named Entertainer of the Year at the 2024 CMA Awards (though he hasn’t acknowledged the award yet). He’s released a few singles last year too, including “Lies Lies Lies” and “Love Somebody,” both of which topped the charts and added to his incredible catalog of 16 #1 hits so far. “I Had Some Help,” his duet with Post Malone, also became a massive hit and went #1 on multiple charts. Morgan obviously had his troubles this year as well, with his arrest back in April for throwing a chair off the rooftop of Eric Church’s downtown Nashville bar, Chief’s. But after originally being charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment, Morgan entered a plea earlier this month to two misdemeanor charges and was sentenced to two years of probation along with 7 days in a DUI education center. He’s off to another hot start with his music, with his song "Smile" debuting at #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and that’s after only three days of tracking due to the short holiday week, so it will likely only continue to climb (very quickly), especially after a full week of being out. Morgan's obviously got a lot going on in his personal life too, but his career momentum seemingly continues to grow with each release regardless, and its been one unbelievable milestone after another. As he continues to tease and release new music, likely with the prospect of a new album on the horizon this year, it feels like he's still just getting started... who knows what the next 25 years will hold.
