Simply stunning. This afternoon, country music star Carrie Underwood attended the inauguration of President Trump to perform "America The Beautiful." The decision was of course met with backlash from some fans who didn't love the fact that she was lending her talents to a President don't love, but Carrie, who has generally been pretty quiet on politics, responded with class, saying in a simple statement that she was "honored" to be asked to perform for the President and felt humbled to "answer the call" in an effort to display unity: “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.” Carrie didn’t endorse anyone in the 2024 presidential election or reveal who she voted for, and this afternoon, the performance didn't exactly go as planned. She walked out in a gorgeous silver dress after President Trump and Vice President Vance were sworn in, looking absolutely beautiful, and waited for the music to start so she could sing. Well, it sounded like something started for a second, and then the audio went silent... I thought something was happening on the live TV feed, but it was clear pretty quickly that something was up live inside the Capitol building and Carrie smiled in silence as she waited for her cue. Well, she waited, and waited a few seconds longer, then decided to take over and do it a cappella after realizing time was wasting. It ended up being absolutely gorgeous, and honestly, I think fit the moment so much better. Of course, many who were upset she was there in the first place didn't like it, and wouldn't have no matter what, but most fans watching on TV were overwhelmingly impressed with her professionalism and lovely performance. Without the music, it felt so powerful, and we all know what a strong and amazing vocalist she is, and she was made for the moment and somehow made it even more memorable than it would've been had everything gone perfectly, I think.
