Charley Crockett Announces New Album, ‘Lonesome Drifter’
Coming SOON.
This afternoon, Charley Crockett announced a new album Lonesome Drifter, which will be out everywhere on March 14th. The album will include 12 songs that were recorded at the legendary Sunset Sounds Studio in Los Angeles, California.
The title track will be out everywhere this Friday, January 31st:

Over the course of just 10 days, Charley was joined by producer Shooter Jennings and recorded "the magic of performance on tape" live. Crockett says the album "made itself" in terms of how easy and natural it all came:
"Shooter and I barely talked about it. I just brought all of my guys out, and the album made itself. It was live without a lot of overdubs. There were no inhibitions. I wasn’t being judged, and I didn’t feel self-conscious. Shooter knew how to cut loose and let this thing unfold."
Additionally, he explained that he started writing the title track years ago when he was still playing subways in New York, and it was actually a years-long process:
"I started writing the song back when I was still playing in subways in New York. It’s how I learned to play electric guitar with an amp on my shoulder. While I was waiting for the next train, I wrote songs.
A few years later, I was in California working on the ganja farms, and I came up with the ‘Lonesome Drifter’ section. When I arrived on the West Coast, I worked to stay out there as a drifter, so I could get away with playing music for a living. At night, I was doing heavy electric blues and hillbilly shit at local bars for six hours. Shooter got me back into that mindset.
The burden of becoming a troubadour is you’re standing in a position that gives you a clear perspective of the struggles of humans. When all is said and done, everyone is just swinging a hammer to survive."
Charley is a rare talent in the music industry, and he releases new music almost more than anyone else int he game. Most recently, he put out $10 Cowboy last April, and quickly followed it up with a second collection of songs, the second chapter of $10 Cowboy, Visions Of Dallas.
He fuses together elements of Western swing, traditional country music, and blues to create his signature sound, and is an incredibly talented writer with a knack for telling unique stories both from his life and impressive imagination.
Crockett is nominated for a Grammy Award this year in the Best Americana Album category for the aforementioned record $10 Cowboy, and the ceremony will air this weekend on February 2nd, on CBS from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
He is as consistent as any artist I can think of in terms of the quality of his music, so I know fans will be excited to hear what he's been working on come March. You can view the entire tracklist for Lonesome Drifter below, which looks to have a cover of George Strait's "Amarillo By Morning" (I'm assuming that's not an original) that I cannot wait to hear.
