Randy Travis Announces New Single “Horses In Heaven”

Randy Travis is saddling up for a new single. Last year, Randy Travis released his first song in over a decade, titled “Where That Came From." Seeing his name under the Whiskey Riff Country New Music Friday playlist was incredible when it dropped. While Randy Travis solidified his name as a country music legend before suffering his 2013 stroke that left him with aphasia, fans always wondered if there would be a way that we could hear his stunning vocals again. Fast forward a few years, with AI growing in popularity and its usage in the music world becoming more popular, Randy Travis was able to get back into the studio. With the help of artificial intelligence, we got new music from the "Three Wooden Crosses" singer. "Where That Came From"  was written by John Scott Sherrill and Scotty Emerick, and James Dupre, a former contestant on The Voice, provided the base vocal track. From there, producer Kyle Lehning went “syllable-by-syllable,” using AI to isolate Randy’s voice from over 40 of his songs and overlaying that with what Dupre had recorded. https://twitter.com/CBSSunday/status/1787108426050363841?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1787108426050363841%7Ctwgr%5E5621432d12f24430291e8d1208c4d57f512dabb4%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.whiskeyriff.com%2F2024%2F12%2F06%2Fcountry-music-moments-2024-ai-helps-bring-back-the-iconic-voice-of-randy-travis%2F Although AI in the musical world has had some backlash, as it can mimic the voice of artists without their permission, and overall might take over the jobs of the hard-working artists who are currently busting their butt on the road. However, given that Travis was heavily involved in the creative process of this single, giving everyone his permission to use AI to make his voice sing new lyrics, everyone was on board with this use of AI. The result was stunning, and country fans could not get enough of the track. Given how well-received his first single in over a decade was, Randy Travis and his musical team are running it back as he announced today his next single, "Horses In Heaven." "When I began my recovery almost 12 years ago many things changed, but one thing stayed the same - my desire to share new music and create new memories. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to continue doing that thanks to family, friends, fans, and God’s grace. After my last release I told you there would be more where that came from, and I’m excited to jump back in the saddle and release a brand-new recording, “Horses In Heaven.” I still remember the first time I stepped into those stirrups as a little boy, and my horses have been family to me ever since. This song is a special one, and I can’t wait for all of you to hear it. Pre-save “Horses In Heaven” at the link in my bio to be the first to listen this Friday, January 31." With the announcement of the single, Travis shared on social media a snippet of him talking about the power of connecting with a horse and how he's always been drawn to the animal, as well as a snippet of the forthcoming single. From this short segment, I can tell that this song will be very moving, especially for horse lovers. I still feel like someone needs to pinch me as I type this, but this Friday is going to be a damn good one with a new Randy Travis single on the way.
