Kacey Musgraves Releases Statement On Viral Reaction To Beyoncé Winning Grammy For Best Country Album: “A Sensationalistic False Narrative”

No drama here. On Sunday night, Beyoncé took home the Grammy Award for Best Country Album and Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter, which was certainly a huge cultural moment, but after it failed to be nominated at many of last year’s country music award shows, many assumed that Beyoncé’s short stay in the country genre was going to end with nothing to show for it. Well, she was up against some of the biggest, most respected names in country for the award, which also included Chris Stapleton with Higher, Lainey Wilson with Whirlwind, Post Malone and his debut country record F-1 Trillion, as well as her fellow Texan Kacey Musgraves with Deeper Well. And Kacey's reaction when Beyoncé's named was called caused quite a stir online, with many Beyonce stans assuming she looked upset that she lost. Personally, I didn't think that much of it and I didn't think she looked that annoyed, but you can see it for yourself here: Kacey Musgraves is pissed that Beyonce beat her for best country album, look at her face expression #GRAMMYs pic.twitter.com/AYT6v8UpZa — What's Da Bizness (@whatsdabizness) February 3, 2025 Kacey has spoken highly of Beyoncé in the past, been to her concerts, and there have been rumors for a while about the possibility of them working together... she's also a self-proclaimed queen of "RBF" so I really don't think there's anything more to her reaction. And what's more, Kacey even co-wrote some songs with INK for Cowboy Carter that ultimately didn't make it onto the record. This is just what happens when fanatical fans make assumptions based on someone's in-the-moment reaction. Until now, she hasn't spoken publicly about the online buzz (aside from giving some random person backstage a "thumbs up"), but yesterday, her rep gave a statement to E! News saying has has no hard feelings towards Beyoncé, and that it is a "false narrative" meant to pit "two talented female artists against each other": "It’s a sensationalistic false narrative meant to pit two talented female artists against each other. There was simply no scowl or expression made." It's insane they had to even put out a statement about this in the first place, but that's the power of the Beyhive... right or wrong, they're a vocal bunch. We saw that play out when they shamed an Oklahoma country radio station into playing her song "Texas Hold 'Em," when her label never even planned to service it to country radio. So yeah, there's nothing to it, and I honestly think we'll eventually see them work together in some capacity, because there's been rumors about it for a while now. Kacey did take home an award at the Grammys too, during the non-televised portion, where her beautiful song "The Architect" took home the award for Best Country Song. She said simply in her acceptance speech: "There's so much darkness in the world right now. It feels so good to be able to fight some of that darkness through song."
