It’s Well Past Time For Another Country Music Super Bowl Halftime Show…

A country halftime show is LONG overdue. This year, rapper Kendrick Lamar (featuring SZA) will do the honors, and for many years now, we've had pop artists, some rappers, and even some old rock bands perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. Of course, many country artists have been tapped for the National Anthem as of late (Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, and Reba come to mind right away), but it’s been awhile since country has been featured for the halftime show. Shania Twain was the last country artist to headline the mid-game concert in 2003, and the most memorable has to be 1994 when Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt, and The Judds rocked out the Georgia Dome, but as the popularity of the genre has surged over the last couple years, it feels like now is the perfect time to bring country back into the fold. Obviously, for the NFL, the most important factor in this decision is the commercial viability of the act, and judging by the numbers in terms of charts and ticket sales, one name comes to mind, and that would obviously be Morgan Wallen. He's has been an all-genre chart juggernaut as of late. ... we're talking Taylor Swift levels of chart success. But as well all know, there are so many country acts who could put on a helluva show at the Super Bowl, and this week, we asked all of you who you would want to see headline the Super Bowl halftime show: "Which country artists should headline the Super Bowl halftime show?" https://www.instagram.com/p/DFtaLkryKnf/ Tons of y'all weight in on who you think would put on a legendary halftime show, and there were some great answers. I think it's fun to think about people like Sturgill Simpson doing it, but unfortunately that's just so unlikely to ever happen (I know, I know, it's not fair). It's really common these days for the headliner to either have a couple surprise artists join them, and I think that would work well for a country artists because this genre is so collaborative these days anyways. Some sort of Luke Combs, Post Malone, Morgan Wallen combo I think would be great, and of course I'd love to see George Strait and Dolly Parton up there too... many people also mentioned Toby Keith, who I completely agree would've put on a seriously iconic halftime show. Here's a look at some of the comments and your thoughts on the perfect country Super Bowl halftime show: "Luke Combs would be a good option. Stapleton would be sick as well. That takes a special kind of entertainer to be able to pull off. There's plenty of fantastic musicians that I love that I don't know how well they'd do with a halftime show." "Laineyyyy, one helluva performer!" "Sturgill." "Honest answer: George Strait… Only answer the NFL would ever consider: Post Malone and Morgan Wallen." "Hank 2&3" "Zach Top." "The ghost of Waylon Jennings." "Morgan Wallen." "Zach Bryan is my favorite realistic answer but still not very realistic. Posty could do it for sure though the album grew on me, maybe Morgan Wallen but I’d switch the channel." "Combs, Wallen, Zach Bryan " "George Strait, Alan Jackson, Cody Johnson, and Zach Top." "Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen, Jelly Roll." "Hear my out … Lainey, Hardy, Morgan, Ernest." "Koe or Whiskey Myers get that country rock" "Billy mother f*****g Strings." "Should’ve been Toby Keith." "Eric Church." "Zach Top, Luke Combs or Wallen if it has to be younger singers. But realistically brooks and Dunn and George Straight." "Dolly Parton and Zach Top." "Toby Keith can we do a virtual concert from Heaven??" "If we're being honest about who's big enough to play the halftime show, the answers are Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, MAYBE Lainey Wilson. Would love to see a legend come out with one of them." "George Straight and Post!!!!!" "Cody Jinks, Luke Combs, Jamey Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Darius Rucker & Zac Brown Band." "George Straight is probably the safest answer. If Toby Keith was still alive he would be my answer for SURE." There's always next year, right? It's well past time... c'mon, NFL. We deserve this. The big game will air on FOX live from the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana as the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles, and kick off is at 6:30PM EST. Honestly, though, it's going to be hard to ever top this epic country halftime show... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7zOHLsGNDg
