Kid Rock Curses Crowd, Storms Offstage During Performance At Nashville Bar: “F**k Y’all, I’m Gone”
Bob wasn’t feeling the crowd.
One of the most frequently asked questions I hear from visitors coming to Nashville is: Where can I see a celebrity? Everybody wants to see a country singer out in the wild when they come to Music City.
And honestly, the real answer is somewhere like the Publix in Green Hills, or the mall at Cool Springs, or at the Red Door Saloon in Midtown, because most of the time they’re just going about their lives and not hanging out on Broadway like the tourists seem to think they are.
The exception to that rule, though, is Kid Rock.
The rocker, whose real name is Bob Ritchie, is one of the few artists that you actually stand a decent chance of seeing at any given night on Broadway, usually at his own downtown Nashville bar. But sometimes he ventures out to support his friends at their own bars, like this past weekend when he was at JBJ’s for a birthday bash celebrating Bon Jovi keyboard player David Bryan.
Kid Rock appeared with Bryan on stage for a performance of “Proud Mary,” but apparently he wasn’t feeling the crowd and quickly turned on them.
At one point he stopped the music to berate the crowd:
“No, fuck them. Fuck them. Hey, hey, stop, stop. If you ain’t gonna clap, we ain’t gonna sing. That’s how it’s gonna work.”
Rock then demonstrated how he expected the crowd to clap along to the song before firing the music back up. But apparently it still wasn’t up to his standards, and he decided to pull the plug and storm off stage:
“You know what? Fuck y’all. You ain’t gonna clap? I’m gone.”
And that was that.
Now, Kid Rock is probably used to the more rowdy crowd at his own Nashville bar, which has a reputation for being one of the wildest bars on Broadway. Something tells me you’re just not gonna find the same crowd at JBJ’s, especially at a birthday party for a 63-year old keyboard player.
But Mr. Rock is also known for his outbursts on stage, and honestly this one was pretty tame by comparison. Back in 2019, Kid Rock came under fire for a wild rant that he gave on the stage at his own bar, taking aim at Oprah and Joy Behar while insisting that he’s not a racist:
“I’m not a bad guy. I’m just an honest guy that says, “Hey, I don’t like Oprah Winfrey or Joy Behar. They can suck d*ck sideways.” Sorry mom. The “Hey, you’re f*ckin’ racist,” I’m like, “You’re f*ckin’ weird.”
And, “You call your people, I’ll call mine.” Like, what? This is f*ckin’ weird, right? Fuck Oprah Winfrey, f*ck Kathie Gifford. I’m 48 and I’m the guy that you want to be like, “Hey, I want Kid Rock on my side.”
I’m not the bad guy in the equation. I’m the f*ckin’ guy you want, like, “Hey, he’s pretty cool.” Oprah Winfrey is like, “Hey, I’m gonna get some white women to believe in this sh*t.” F*ck her. She can suck d*ck sideways.
And if you say that, you’re like, “Hey, well, pretty sure Kid Rock’s a racist.” I’m like, OK, fine. F*ck off. Sideways.”
And in 2021, everybody in the media lost their mind when he was caught using a homophobic slur while on stage at another Tennessee bar:
“F**k your iPhone. You can post this, you can post this, you can post this dick right now. You f**king f*****s with your phones out.”
So while I’m sure the folks at JBJ’s over the weekend were disappointed that Kid Rock cut his performance short, hey, it could have been a lot worse. This was barely a blip on the radar when it comes to Kid Rock meltdowns.
