The Ritual Says It’s Time for Another Very Serious Exorcism Movie

News The Ritual The Ritual Says It’s Time for Another Very Serious Exorcism Movie “Emma is not well” is an understatement By Molly Templeton | Published on March 26, 2025 Screenshot: XYZ Films Comment 0 Share New Share Screenshot: XYZ Films At some point, religious horror fans, do you begin to feel you’ve seen one exorcism movie, you’ve seen them all? Or do the small nuances of priest and possessed continue to awe and amaze? If it’s the latter, you may be quite delighted to hear that there is another very serious exorcism movie on the way. The Ritual stars Al Pacino, Dan Stevens, Abigail Cowen, and Twilight’s Ashley Greene, and the trailer suggests it is shot entirely in the sort of muted tones that would not be out of place on the robes in a monochromatic dystopia. The Ritual is “based on true events,” and the website for the film is a lot. You can read all about Father Theophilus Riesinger (Pacino), Reverend Joseph Steiger (Stevens), and Emma Schmidt, also known as Anna Ecklund, who was allegedly possessed for decades. The site will also take you to a post about the Catholic Church’s views on exorcisms, or lead you to a place where you can request your very own exorcism. It’s a lot. After all that, the trailer is barely a minute long. But you’ll get the gist. The Ritual is directed by by David Midell (The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain) and co-written by Midell and Enrico Natale, whose previous screenplays include WTF: World Thumbwrestling Federation (which he also directed) and a series called Cartoon Hook-Ups. Watch The Ritual for yourself in theaters June 6th.[end-mark] The post The Ritual Says It’s Time for Another Very Serious Exorcism Movie appeared first on Reactor.
