In January, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed their baby girl, Athena. The world shared in the family’s delight and excitement over a new royal baby. But the princess is now opening up about the difficulties she experienced during her pregnancy and how frightening the unknown can be. She penned a personal essay for British Vogue, in which she explained, “Following routine scans, we became aware our precious cargo needed close monitoring, and understood we needed to prepare for an early arrival. I’ve had a life that is out of the ordinary, but my joys and fears in pregnancy and motherhood are the same as those experienced by millions of other women around the world.” During her pregnancy, doctors monitored her closely. And when Athena arrived, she received expert care. Princess Beatrice does not know exactly what caused her preterm labor, but she wants to advocate for pregnant mothers. While receiving care at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, she learned about Borne. It’s an organization founded with the mission to end preterm birth. Now, she works with them to help mothers. Princess Beatrice shared her mission to support mothers who experience preterm birth: “It is in that spirit of togetherness that I have teamed up with one of my oldest friends, Alice Naylor-Leyland, to create a new baby shower collection for her brand, Mrs Alice, the proceeds of which will benefit Borne. Mrs Alice is all about bringing people together around a table to encourage joyful moments, and this collection came about after long, late-night discussions around fertility, surrogacy, pregnancy, and motherhood.
