Now, THAT’S how you do a big finale. Carrie Underwood is wrapping up her Las Vegas residency Reflection this week, which she’s been doing on and off since December of 2021. Of course, she runs through hits like “Before He Cheats” and “Jesus Take The Wheel,” but it’s her performance of “Something in the Water” that is absolutely spectacular. Of course, Carrie co-wrote it with Chris DeStefano and Brett James, and it was included on her 2014 compilation album, Greatest Hits: Decade #1. The song became a massive crossover success, reaching #1 on both the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Hot Christian Songs charts. It’s her 14th career leader on Hot Country Songs, and her second in 2014. It topped the former chart for seven weeks and the latter for 26 weeks, and also debuted at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. It set and broke multiple airplay records on country radio in its first week, in addition to winning the Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance. “Something in the Water” finds Carrie professing her faith and journey to be reborn in God’s image, and the fact that it became such a big hit says a lot about the message and how many people felt it on a very deep level. It’s been one of my favorites from her ever since, and what she did to it for the residency is something else. Carrie shared a clip on Instagram earlier of the finale of her Vegas show, which finds her belting her heart out while being drenched in water and making an incredible moment out of what is an already very powerful song.
