Brave Toddler Saves His Great-Grandmother After She Hits Her Head On Concrete Step
February 23 is a day that Sharon Lewis will never forget. One of her great-grandchildren needed to be taken to the emergency room for an injured finger. So, when Sharon was asked if she could babysit that great-grandchild’s brother, she was more than happy to make the hospital visit easier on the parents. Soon enough, however, the toddler in her care would save Sharon herself.
The toddler, Bridger, hadn’t been with Sharon for long when the accident took place. The two of them were walking back to her home when Grandma (or Gigi, as the toddler calls her) tripped as she used her walker. She hit her head on a concrete step, leaving a sizeable gash in her forehead. Bridger saw what happened, asking if she was okay. Unable to get up, Gigi carefully instructed the 3-year-old boy to get her phone from the car, as seen below.
@todayshow On Feb. 23, Sharon Lewis was watching her great-grandson Bridger, 3, when she tripped and hit her head on a concrete step, splitting her forehead open. Lewis started yelling for her neighbors, however, no one heard her cries. So she asked Bridger to go to her car and get her phone. Home security footage captured Bridger’s bravery and how he psyched himself up for the challenge. “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid,” he told himself. After Lewis was able to call 911, she was diagnosed with a concussion and received 22 staples in her head, which were removed last week. She's now "healing very well" and calls Bridger "quite a blessing." : Stephanie Peabody ♬ original sound – TODAY Show
Tear-jerking Video Captures the Very Moment a Brave Toddler Saves His Great-Grandmother
“I never lost consciousness and I knew I was bleeding,” 77-year-old Sharon explains. “I tried to wipe the blood out of my eyes. Bridger was standing there and asked, ‘Are you OK? There’s a lot of blood.'”
Although Bridger later admits he was afraid, he hyped himself all the way to Gigi’s phone. Best of all, he was able to get the phone back to her. From there, the toddler’s parents were contacted and called 911 themselves.
Sharon was diagnosed with a concussion and received 22 staples in her head, all of which have since been removed. While she was taken to the hospital herself, little Bridger was taken care of by a kind neighbor who gave him cereal and lots of PAW Patrol to watch.
Since that harrowing day, the brave toddler was gifted with a new toy car. Now, Sharon plans on hosting a special dinner to honor him.
“If it hadn’t been for Bridger,” she says, “I don’t know what would have happened.”
