Jon Pardi Is In His “Try Not To Curse In Front Of The Kids” Era Of Life: “My Baby Girls Are Starting To Be Copy Cats”
Now that Jon Pardi is a father, he’s trying his best to set a good example for his kiddos.
The California cowboy – Jon Pardi – joined the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast this week to talk about his new album Honkytonk Hollywood, staying true to his traditional country roots and leaning into that style, his writing process, becoming a dad, interesting pre-show rituals, hangover cures and much more.
It was an incredibly entertaining interview, and it came at just the right time to help promote Pardi’s upcoming Honkytonk Hollywood record, which leans a little bit more into the southern rock stylings. He even admitted that he could see his classic rock influences – like Tom Petty and the Rolling Stones – helping shape the track list to the new album.
As he spoke about some good, old fashioned rock and roll bands, Jon Pardi referred to the genre as the “good sh… good stuff.” Not to toot my own horn, but I noticed that he withheld the word “sh*t” and quickly autocorrected it to the favorite sub for the s-word: “Stuff.”
We politely informed Jon Pardi that he’s free to curse on the podcast if he wishes, and though he admitted to he enjoys the occasional swear word deployment, the country music artist let us know that he was trying to scale back for the sake of his two daughters:
“I’ve been trying to not curse as much. I’ve been trying to be good also because now my baby girls are starting to be copycats of stuff. And it starts everywhere. I’m trying. So I’m trying to clean it up. It all starts in practice, right?”
There’s nothing funnier than a little kid swearing, right? It’s a slippery slope, because your natural instinct is to laugh, but then you know that can swiftly create a bad habit. The Pardi household is evidently going through some form of that right now.
And Pardi happily informed us that he was really doing good with the whole no swearing thing… right before he broke into a tangent about his love for f-bombs:
“I’ve been good. I’ve been trying to be good. But I love saying f**k. F**k is my favorite, definitely my favorite cuss word. There’s so many things you could say or do with f**k. But not good in country music. That’s the one word that you just can’t include.”

First off, I couldn’t agree more with his love for the f-word. Incredibly versatile, and it almost always lets out a little steam when exclaimed. Second, I hadn’t ever really thought about the f-bomb being absent in country music (minus Wheeler Walker Jr.), but Pardi has a valid point in mentioning that country music typically stays away from that curse word.
And that wasn’t the only great thought that the “Honkytonk Hollywood” singer offered up during our sit-down interview with him. But if you want to hear more from Jon Pardi, you’ll have to jump right in and listen to the entire episode.
