The bulls are loaded in the chute, and the baby cowboys are gently placed on the bull. Some of the tiny dynamos are more than ready for this experience. They come out of the chute with a raised arm and hold on tight, ready to qualify for a scored ride. A regulation ride means that a rider needs to remain on a bucking bull for at least 6 seconds to get a score for that ride. They must hold the bull rope, not touch the animal or themselves, and not fall off. The raised arm ensures a qualifying ride. Scoring for this rodeo event is similar in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, and Australia. These baby cowboys get a practice ride to feel the success of a completed ride without the danger.
