Pop Star Tate McRae Hints She’s Featured On “What I Want,” From Morgan Wallen’s Forthcoming ‘I’m The Problem’
So it looks like the female duet isn’t a country artist at all…
Last week, Morgan Wallen had fans stirred up on social media after dropping a hint that he will have a female duet parter on a song from his forthcoming album I’m The Problem called “What I Want.”
A fan shared on Twitter (now X):
“Morgan Wallen, please, please, PLEASE confirm ‘What I Want’ is a duet. You haven’t yet sang with any female artists on any of your first three albums, so PLEASE tell me this is the case.”

Wallen responded to this fan on Twitter with a simple yet telling response.
“Indeed sir.”

Fans guessed the obvious artists like Megan Moroney, Ella Langley, Miranda Lambert and others in the country genre, but if you know anything about Morgan’s music and general taste, it’s not shocking in the least that he would ask someone from a totally different genre to sing with him… and I think we now have our answer on who it is.
Morgan himself even confirmed that “nobody” had guessed it yet.
And then this afternoon, pop star Tate McRae shared a sneaky Instagram story with a photo of a Tennessee Vols, bright orange jersey, that featured a “MW” logo on the collar and a letter “T” and number “8” for her name:
It all but confirms that Tate will be featured on “What I Want,” and Morgan has never had a major collaboration with a female artist, so this will be huge, and while I don’t really know a ton of Tate’s music, I imagine this song will stray from the more “country” aspects of some of Morgan’s music and lean more into that pop sound he likes a lot too.
Tate has previously joined Megan Moroney for a duet onstage, so she clearly has interest in the country genre and you couldn’t ask for a bigger opportunity than to work with Morgan right now in this capacity. Even if you don’t listen to pop music much, you’ve probably heard her hit “Greedy” at some point, even in unwillingly, and while it feels like kind of a random pairing, I’m open to hearing the song before I make any judgments on the collab partner choice.
I’m The Problem is due out everywhere on May 16th, and Morgan has already released six songs including the title track, “I’m a Little Crazy,” “Love Somebody,” “Lies Lies Lies,” and “Smile.” He just announced that another new one, a duet with his former hit duet partner Post Malone called “I Ain’t Comin’ Back,” will drop this Friday.
Morgan is also gearing up to hit the road this summer for his 2025 I’m The Problem Tour with a rotating lineup of openers including Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Koe Wetzel and more.
