Luke Combs Debuts A Pair Of Brand New Songs At His Nashville Bar, Category 10

Cooking up those new tunes. Luke Combs recently revealed that he is already working on his 6th career studio album, which will follow up the hyper-emotional Fathers & Sons record. It was truly one of my favorite projects in Luke’s entire catalog. As a father of 2 little ones, that album had me tearing up on the way to school more times than I can count… just yanking on those heartstrings at 8 in the morning. But Luke recently told MeatEater’s Steve Rinella that he already has about 40 or 50 songs on the table for the next one, and it will just be a matter of figuring out which ones to keep on the album: “I’m at the point now, I’m about to go in the studio for the first session on cutting my next record. So I’m trying to cut probably, anywhere from like, in a worst case scenario four or best case six… I would say right now, songs that are in serious contention to make the record, I mean like forty to fifty? You got to whittle it down…  Then you’re getting into like, it’s like heavyweight fights because all the songs you really like all of them.” And while this podcast was released just last week, Luke wasted no time debuting new songs. Performing at his own Nashville bar tonight, Category 10, for a concert dubbed The Big Kickoff (celebrating the full opening of the bar), Luke prefaced the performance by saying that it was just something he was messing around with in the green room: “Well, I was messing around on this in the green room… I’ve been recording a bunch of new stuff, you know. I did the dad record and that’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever done. I’m really, really proud of that and those are things that I really needed to say, and I really needed to get off my chest. I had a lot of emotions having my two boys, especially that close together. My oldest is 2 1/2 and my youngest is 1, so it’s busy at the house. These days, it’s like I’m either doing something like this or I’m just at home with my kids. I’m playing in the yard and hanging out with my wife and cooking meals and I love that so much. But getting in the studio here the last couple of days has been so much fun and I’m not gonna play you a whole song or nothing, I’m not gonna give you too much but felt like a preview. This might be really bad man I just I was messing with this in the green room and it’s hard to kind of sing it. But I wrote this with my buddies Dan and Reid (Isbell), and Jacob Davis. I’ll just play a little verse chorus. See what you think of it.” Check it out: @whiskeyriff @Luke Combs #whiskeyriff ♬ original sound – Whiskey Riff I’m kind of getting some Ed Sheeran vibes from it… is that just me? But wait, there’s more… Luke treated fans to a second preview of another new one, and it’s a bit of a country heartbreaker: @shelby.m.rogers @Luke Combs #whiskeyriff ♬ original sound – Shelby McCarthy Category 10 is fully open, including the rooftop, and Luke Combs has a new album in the works… bring on the summer. The post Luke Combs Debuts A Pair Of Brand New Songs At His Nashville Bar, Category 10 first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
