News Him The Trailer for Him Is Like a Nike Ad Gone Wildly Off the Rails Get in the game, bro By Molly Templeton | Published on April 18, 2025 Screenshot: Universal Pictures Comment 0 Share New Share Screenshot: Universal Pictures For about 40 seconds, the trailer for Him could be an ad for anything to do with football. It could end with a swoosh or a brand logo. It’s a little over half a minute of “Sports: you must want it so bad.” And then it goes haywire. Deeply, bafflingly, delightfully, grotesquely haywire. The text “from producer Jordan Peele” pops up to give you a hint about where we’re going, but then you’re just on your own with an increasingly intense series of images that blend football and horror as they have rarely, if ever, been seen before. Here’s the synopsis: Him stars former college wide-receiver Tyriq Withers (Atlanta, the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer) as Cameron Cade, a rising-star quarterback who has devoted his life, and identity, to football. On the eve of professional football’s annual scouting Combine, Cam is attacked by an unhinged fan and suffers a potentially career-ending brain trauma.Just when all seems lost, Cam receives a lifeline when his hero, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), a legendary eight-time Championship quarterback and cultural megastar, offers to train Cam at Isaiah’s isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife, Elsie White (Julia Fox; Uncut Gems, No Sudden Move). But as Cam’s training accelerates, Isaiah’s charisma begins to curdle into something darker, sending his protégé down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for. (Is this The Substance For Men?) Him has a fascinating cast of comics (Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies), an MMA fighter (Maurice Greene) and musicians (Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack) to go along with Withers, Wayans, and Fox. The screenplay is by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, the creators of Limetown, and the film is directed by Justin Tipping, who has directed episodes of TV series including Dear White People and The Chi as well as the feature film Kicks. And, as advertised, it comes from Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions. Him kicks off in theaters September 19th.[end-mark] The post The Trailer for Him Is Like a Nike Ad Gone Wildly Off the Rails appeared first on Reactor.
