Stephen Wilson Jr To Kickoff NFL Draft With National Anthem Performance

Hard to imagine a better act to sing the national anthem… The NFL Draft is tonight and I as a Pittsburgh Steeler fan am feeling, well to be honest with you, I don’t have a single clue how to feel. Will Aaron Rodgers sign? Will we draft Shedeur Sanders? Will be kick the can down the road and wind up with Mason Rudolph at the helm? Will we trade George Pickens before we get to see him and DK Metcalf on the field together? More than likely we’ll take some defensive tackle and hope Mike Tomlin can pull some magic out of his rear end (yet again) but I guess I shouldn’t be pessimistic just yet… The draft is in Green Bay, Wisconsin this year and truthfully there’s not a better place on earth for it. Sure, you have people like Cam Ward saying there’s nothing to do there but I’ve been up there twice and let me brag on Black Saddle quickly… It’s a dive bar that gets packed on the weekends, is quiet during the week, serves cans of ice-cold Busch Light, and plays country music all the time, literally where else on earth would you rather be? The area around the stadium is absolutely incredible as well. Called Titletown, there’s so much to do right there in the stadium and also a few bars (including an enormous one called Stadium View) and breweries right in the vicinity. Sure, there’s no insanely overpriced nightclubs or whatever else big cities have that make people like them, but there’s great food, great beer, and the entire city is a dedication to the Green Bay Packers, which is just hands down, objectively cool. We’ll see how the crowd looks tonight (I have a friend who works for them and he thinks it’s going to be way more packed than the media has reported) but to see players get taken in the first round while the history of Green Bay looms large around them is a beautiful place to have the NFL Draft. Kicking things off tonight, as it should be, is the national anthem, performed by one of my favorite artists at the moment, Stephen Wilson Jr. SWJ is from Seymour, Indiana and while he’s never made a statement on what his favorite football team is as far as I can tell, it would be hard not to grow up in the Midwest (outside of Minnesota and Illinois) and not have at least an appreciation for the fan owed NFL team in the frozen tundra. He made the announcement just today on social media: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Stephen Wilson Jr. (@stephen.wilson.jr) I could not be more pumped that he was chosen to kick the draft off tonight. I’m already imagining him hitting the high notes as his guitar bellows before pausing and letting the sound echo quietly to the ground before raising it back up in a crescendo of emotion. Are we in for a Chris Stapleton-esk performance? Guess you’ll have to tune into NFL Network or ESPN at 7:45pm ET and find out… Here’s my favorite of his songs, “Father’s Son” The post Stephen Wilson Jr To Kickoff NFL Draft With National Anthem Performance first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
