Lulu Roman’s rise to fame amid troubled childhood and drug abuse             View this post on Instagram                         A post shared by Gr8erDays (@gr8erdays)   Roman had a very troubled childhood as she was first placed in a home for unwed mothers before quickly being moved to an orphanage. A thyroid condition that led to her struggles with her weight from an early age prevented her from being adopted into a proper home and made her a target for merciless teasing and jokes from other children. The late comedian initially worked as a telephone operator and go-go dancer before she became a part of Hee Haw’s original cast in 1969. Roman soon became a fan favorite from her deadpan delivery, but two years into the show’s legendary run, her drug problem forced the producers to let her go. However, she turned her life around, overcame her addictions, and launched a career as a gospel singer, recording and releasing numerous albums. She continued to work on Hee Haw after her recall until its cancellation.
