Now here is some very good news: Daredevil: Born Again is getting another Defender on board. Krysten Ritter is returning to the role of Jessica Jones for the show’s second season.
Ritter, of course, starred in Jessica Jones for three seasons on Netflix. It was the second of Netflix’s eventual six Marvel series, following the original Daredevil and ahead of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and the team-up series The Defenders, which brought them all together (well, almost). When Disney decided to move Marvel TV series to Disney+, all the Netflix shows were cancelled—and, as Variety notes, the new Marvel deal “included a provision which prevented the characters featured in the shows from appearing in any non-Netflix series or film for at least two years after cancellation.”
But it’s been way more than two years. It’s about time we get Jessica back.
Jessica Jones is a private detective with an attitude problem and superpowers. In the first season of Jessica Jones, she was up against David Tennant’s Kilgrave, a mind-controlling figure from her past. The second season also found her facing a figure from her past; the third did terrible things with the character of Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor), who was once Jessica’s best friend. The series was inconsistent, but Ritter was never less than excellent as Jones, and it’ll be a treat to have her and Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox) back on the same screen.
Do Luke Cage next?
Daredevil: Born Again will return next year on Disney+.[end-mark]
