Did Morgan Wallen Take A Swipe At Country Music Awards Shows With A Line In “I’m A Little Crazy”?

We might be reading too much into this… but maybe not? It’s no secret that Morgan Wallen and the major country music award shows in the CMA and ACM Awards don’t have the best relationship, and Morgan barely acknowledged his 2024 CMA Award for Entertainer of the Year, and skipped out on the recent ACM Awards altogether to play golf with Tom Brady instead… and I think he probably had way more fun than all of his friends that did go to the show. He wasn’t at last year’s CMA show in-person to receive the coveted EOTY, and didn’t record a video message or anything for the audience that was there like most artists do if they have to miss it. For a quick history in case you’re unfamiliar with their beef, for lack of a better word, he and the CMA in particular have a pretty complicated history… in 2021, the country music superstar was banned from the attending the show after he was caught on video earlier that year dropping a racial slur. And the past two years, fans have sounded off after believing Morgan was snubbed from the night’s top prize, losing to Luke Combs in 2022 and Lainey Wilson in 2023. Morgan has consistently been snubbed, even if he was nominated, at these shows. While he was one of the most nominated artists of the evening, including being up for EOTY once again, at the ACM’s earlier this month, Morgan did not win one single award, which is simply ridiculous considering he’s a megastar and a huge part of the reason country has become so wildly popular over the last couple years. Whether you like his music or not, for him to leave empty-handed, based on their own criteria, is pretty insane. But these awards don’t really mean anything, so I guess it really doesn’t matter… especially to him. And during an interview with Kelleigh Bannen for Apple Music’s Today Country, she asked him about “I’m A Little Crazy,” which was one of the pre-released songs written by Hardy, Smith Ahnquist, Hunter Phelps and Jameson Rodgers, that Morgan previously teased on Instagram. The song finds him reflecting on the state of the world and how he keeps a “loaded .44 by the bed” even though he hopes he never has to use it. Kelleigh noted how some of the lyrics are a little quirky, and how interesting the line in the chorus is, and how she would never think of comparing herself to a coyote, which goes like this: “Oh, once you get to know me I’m a coyote in a field of wolves” Morgan explained that it’s his favorite line in the song, because it represents how he’s has literally not been invited to things before, and probably has felt figuratively left out too, though he relates to the coyote because even if he’s alone, he’s still going to eat, so to speak: “That’s my favorite line. at times in my life, I haven’t felt like I was invited. and to me, that’s what that line says, is like, ‘Hey, I know I wasn’t invited, but I’m still eatin’ and I’m still fed,’ you know? And that’s really what that line says to me, and I think that’s why it’s my favorite.” I obviously think he’s probably referring to many different things in reference to that line and what inspired it, though I do think the way he’s been largely left out of the major country award shows, when in reality, he should be sweeping them (by their metrics) with where his career is at right now, probably was part of the inspiration behind it. Fans in the comments seemed very certain that he was taking a swipe at the aforementioned country institutions, and I do think that’s probably part of it, because it would only be natural to feel that way, I think… let’s be honest, whether they’ll admit to it or not, every artist deep down wants to win the award(s) they’re nominated for, if only to signal to their peers that they’re on top. Join us tomorrow morning on @Apple Music at 9am CT #countrymusic #newmusic #morganwallen ♬ I’m A Little Crazy – Morgan Wallen I wouldn’t be shocked if we don’t see him at any these shows going forward, and there’s gonna be no love lost between either party if that’s the case. If he ever performs at one again, and that’s a big IF, how funny would it be if he played this: “I’m A Little Crazy” The post Did Morgan Wallen Take A Swipe At Country Music Awards Shows With A Line In “I’m A Little Crazy”? first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
