Uncle Jesse has some musical chops. Full House fans will remember that John Stamos’ character showcased some musical ability throughout the series. He even had his own band, Jesse and the Rippers. As it turns out, that on-screen persona has a lot in common with the real life John Stamos, and we got to see that on full display during last weekend’s Hollywood Bowl stop of the 2025 Outlaw Music Festival Tour. The tour, which features the 92-year-old Willie Nelson as the main attraction, has many other high profile artists as a part of the setlist throughout the summer (Bob Dylan, The Avett Brothers, Charles Wesley Godwin to name a few). But nowhere did the tour announcement tell fans to expect stars from TV and movies to also grace the stage… and play the bongos. When in Hollywood, I suppose. Stamos took to Instagram to share plenty of pictures and videos of himself playing percussion for most of Willie Nelson’s time on stage. If I were there at the Hollywood Bowl, I’d probably be too blown away watching Willie Nelson do his thing to notice that the Uncle Jesse was playing the drums just a couple of feet behind him. And to be clear, Stamos is a talented drummer. He’s got some experience with a number of instruments, but percussion just might be his strong suit (he actually tours with the Beach Boys). So it makes sense that was what he was trusted with when the lights came on the music started to play. Nerves didn’t seem to be an issue at all either. Drumeo has tons of instructional drum content, but one of their most interesting series is where they take a professional drummer and challenge them to drum on a song that they’ve never heard before, usually a pretty popular song, with the drum track removed. Luke Combs’ drummer Jake Sommers was featured on an episode as well, jamming to French metal band Gojira. It’s really cool.
