“You Have No Idea How Long I’ve Been Looking For You” — Jamey Johnson’s Wife, Brittney, Says He Proposed The Day After They Met
What a beautiful story.
Earlier this week, Jamey Johnson married Brittney Eakins at a ceremony in Franklin, Tennessee at the Graystone Quarry, which was fitting, because about a year after Jamey moved to Nashville, he worked for a company that pumped out rock quarries and mines so workers could return to work after a rain. In 2016, the quarry reopened as a music venue that featured FirstBank Amphitheater, where Jamey has performed several times.
He has also worked at the Graystone Quarry before in the early 2000’s, in fact, so Brittney was happy to let him pick the venue and the wedding was officiated by Randy Houser. The dress code was of course “cowboy black tie, which Brittney says is a nod to thier Nashville friends:
“It’s a nod to our Nashville friends and to let them know they could wear their hats and boots.”
Jamey added:
“It was a way to tell all of my friends who can’t be told what to do or when to do it, ‘This is an idea of what you could wear. Put on the stuff you wear when you want to wear something nice.’”
That’s such a nice way of putting it… I love that dress code, and it sounds like it was perfect for them. In addition to Houser officiating, tons of country names you know attended including Oliver Anthony, Dean Dillon, Lee Brice, Zac Brown, ERNEST, Marcus King, Ella Langley, Lukas Nelson, Kid Rock, Randy Travis, Luke Grimes and more.
Not a bad guest list…
Brittney was born in Slidell, Louisiana and grew up in nearby Kiln, and she earned a law degree from the University of Mississippi and was a law clerk at the State Supreme Court in January 2019, which is how she met ultimately met Jamey. He attended Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves’ inauguration, and it sounds like it was love at first sight for him, at least.
Brittney says he was so smitten that he proposed to her the next day in front of a restaurant… he suggested they “skip the dating” and just get married, have kids and do all that stuff, and they could get to the date later.
“‘How about we skip the dating? Let’s go ahead and get married and have some kids and we’ll talk about a date after that.’ I couldn’t tell if he was kidding or not. He didn’t laugh. He looked at me and said, ‘You have no idea how long I have been looking for you.’”
“You have no idea how long I have been looking for you”? Jamey Johnson might need to start writing romance novels or Nicholas Sparks movies scripts. I knew he had a way with words, but dang… that’s impressive. Jamey has got major game, and while Brittney was flattered by his offer, she suggested they go on a proper date first.
They had a long-distance relationship for four years, and Jamey proposed to Brittney on March 1st of 2023 on the deck of the Walter Sillers building in Jackson, where Brittney was working for Attorney General Lynn Fitch.
He surprised her at work the day they got engaged:
“He asked me to take a walk with him, so I did. I don’t remember our conversation, but I remember we were right across the street from where we met. He got down on one knee and proposed. I guess I said yes this time!”
It’s such a beautiful love story, and Brittney says she had a great time at her wedding seeing all of their friends come together and become friends too:
“The best thing about our wedding is that it has brought together so many people we love. Watching our friends meet and become friends has been the best experience for us.”
I know Jamey is just kind of getting back into solo music, releasing Midnight Gasoline last fall, which was the his first solo record in 14 years, but I hope he plans to release some songs he wrote about Brittney because it sounds like he’s very much in love as he moves into this new chapter of life.
One of the highlights of the wedding, too, seemed to be Ernest’s performance of Chris LeDoux’s “Look At You Girl,” which Jamey personally requested he do for their first dance at the reception:
