Megan Moroney Teases New Song “Beautiful Things,” Inspired By Her Niece
The next chapter of Megan Moroney is loading.
Megan Moroney is teasing new music again, indicating to fans that her Am I Okay? era might be coming to an end soon. Like Taylor Swift has with all of her albums, Megan Moroney has distinctly tied each of her records to a specific color. Green being the color for her debut record, Lucky, and recently Moroney has been stepping out in blue in honor of her sophomore record. But at the ACM Awards, Moroney steered away from the royal blue she has been sporting at significant events, unveiling a new color. Yellow.
Moroney tipped her hat to the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star Kate Hudson’s character, Andie Anderson, wearing a stunning butter yellow gown on the red carpet. Many fans felt as though this was an Easter egg for what her next color era will be.

The clue that this might be the color for the next record falls in line with all of the new music she has been teasing. It appears that MM3 is in the works as she disclosed during a sit-down with Elaina Smith that the fan favorite song “Wedding Dress” will be featured on her next album’s tracklist. While there are still limited details about when MM3 will be gifted to fans, the new songs she’s been teasing are getting the emo cowgirls and cowboys ready for this next era.
Moroney has teased a few new ditties while writing in the tropics, but most recently she shared one that fans are salivating to have. Sitting in a green room, Moroney shared a long snippet of a song titled “Beautiful Things.” Moroney shared in the caption of the song’s preview that her niece inspired it. However, the song is certainly not happy or full of joy.
Moroney writes about the heartbreak and disappointment she will inevitably go through with friends growing up.
“I wrote this song with my niece in mind. When she was born I remember being in awe of how sweet and perfect she was & I (in true emo cowgirl fashion) was sad knowing that when she grows up the world may be cruel to her sometimes… inevitably she’ll get her feelings hurt by friends or her heart broken or just have bad days & I wanted her to be able to have a song to listen to when & if she ever needs it.”
When you take a second to digest the lyrics that Moroney flashes on the screen as she sings, you will see that she perfectly describes an experience all young girls have gone through at least once in their lives.
“You’re standing at your bathroom mirror
Cryin’ ‘What did I do?’ tears
Your friends are out and you’re right here
There’s a party, you didn’t know
You just found out from your phone
Did they not want you to go?
Oh yeah, you feel that twisting knife
Oh, I know it ain’t right
Fires burn up canyons
A hurricane can wreck a beach
Words can make a mockingbird forget they’re born to sing
Lies can break a fragile heart
And doubt can crush your dreams
But honey, just take it from me
The world is hard on beautiful things.”
Yeah… that cuts deep.

I’m in awe that Moroney found this angle for a song, looking at her niece, who has yet to experience any of the world’s evils. It’s deep, it’s raw, and it’s relatable. As a woman, I think I have the jurisdiction to say that female friendships are some of the most beautiful things, but can also be some of the most heartbreaking. Feeling like you are left out, forgotten about, or no longer appreciated among a girl group can be more gut-wrenching than losing a boy you love.
But when you find that core group of friends who get you better than your own family does, it’s pure magic.
If Megan Moroney’s niece does need this song one day, she needs to immediately follow up by listening to “The Girls” and have a conversation with her aunt to remind her how precious girl friendships can be.
