Isn’t It Peculiar…

Author of How to Prep When You’re Broke and Bloom Where You’re Planted online course For the first couple of months of the new administration, I was pretty happy with the direction America was going. I never expected to agree with every single thing that happened in Washington, DC. I only hoped that the majority of things would lead toward the new path that voters were promised. I was extremely pleased to see the immediate aid that came to my beautiful home state of North Carolina after months of being completely disregarded by the Biden administration. I was happy to see people who were not doing their jobs replaced by people who would do those jobs enthusiastically. I was particularly thrilled that all the waste that DOGE uncovered was finally out in the open. However… This article may not be very popular, but I’ve written posts like this for 15 years, and I don’t think any president or member of Congress is untouchable. If they’re right, they’re right, and if they’re wrong, they’re wrong. Blindly adhering to party over principle is what got our nation into this untenable position in the first place. Obviously, I prefer this administration over a propped-up, dementia-stricken old man letting folks use his autopen, but I’m still, honestly, becoming quite disappointed. Recently, a whole lot of things have made me mutter, “What the heck?” while reading about them. I’ve pulled back from writing about politics aside from rare exceptions because I find this topic so frustrating, and I’d prefer to focus on practical solutions rather than raging impotently against an uncaring political machine. Let me be absolutely clear. I am not a Republican. I am not a Democrat. I believe in libertarianism, with a small L, as a personal philosophy. Bear with me on this little tangent, please. Isn’t it peculiar that Congress is voting on a bill to ADD spending before codifying spending cuts? I was thrilled at the hard work of DOGE and Elon Musk, identifying scandalous amounts of waste that were even beyond what my jaded self expected. This is what I voted for, and I was pleasantly surprised to see it happening. But isn’t it peculiar that Congress hasn’t codified any of these cuts yet? Every time he’s questioned on it, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson says, “We’ll vote on that next week.” But next week never comes. Instead, what Congress is working on is the so-called Big Beautiful Bill. If you think wildly excessive spending, a ten-year moratorium on governing AI, and a prohibition of funds being spent to hold any member of the government in contempt of court is beautiful, this is the bill for you. Anyone knows that if you are working on your budget, first you cut spending and then you see what you can afford to add in. This is a** backward and anyone with even a grain of fiduciary experience knows it. This is not what I voted for. Isn’t it peculiar that right as Ukraine unleashed its biggest attacks yet on Russia, pro-war Senator Lindsey Graham was hanging out in Kiev? I’ve never been a fan of Lindsey Graham. I have absolutely no idea on earth how he keeps getting re-elected. But that aside, he has always banged the drum on behalf of giving tons and tons of money to Ukraine while completely ignoring the plight of Americans suffering in North Carolina, less than two hours away from his South Carolina home. Now, he made a “secret” trip to Ukraine and met with President Zelensky. He spent, allegedly, over 400,000 taxpayer dollars on his trip, including luxury lodgings. Another senator, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, accompanied him. Subsequently, an immediate and massive attack took place deep within Russia. Had to be a coincidence, right? Here’s what he posted on X. The ever-resourceful Ukraine used creative drone warfare tactics to successfully attack Russian bombers and military assets used to kill Ukrainian citizens and destroy their country. Russia indiscriminately kills men, women and children. It’s time for the world to act… https://t.co/F7BleLFody — Lindsey Graham (@LindseyGrahamSC) June 1, 2025 Really, Senator? You’re going to pretend this was just random timing? We, the people, are calling and we want our 400 grand back. This is not what I voted for. Isn’t it peculiar that the second a former ally disagrees with the President, they’re an instant enemy? I had really hoped in this term President Trump would have evolved beyond his “you’re either 100% with me or 100% against me” philosophy. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and Congressman Thomas Massie are two members of congress I truly respect because they follow principles, not party. Both have spoken out against several things, such as that afore-mentioned Big Beautiful Bill as the most recent example. In response, the President has insulted them, called for them to be primaried, and belittled their many contributions. This is the United States of America, not North Korea. We don’t have to celebrate our Glorious Leader when we think he’s wrong. The President’s unwillingness to peacefully disagree with former allies without seeing them as full-on enemies and threats is very disturbing to me. For the record, I support both of these members of Congress and find them to be stellar examples of representation and common sense. This is not what I voted for. A plea Please, to any members of Congress who might happen upon this: vote your conscience and vote and the best interests of your constituents. Please, Mr. President, learn to listen to those who supported you, who now disagree with you. Don’t mistreat good people for having different opinions. Please, America, keep out of the problems of other nations and focus on us. We don’t need to be involved in other people’s wars. For those who have done exactly what they promised to do, such as Elon Musk, Tulsi Gabbard, and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr: thank you. This is exactly what I voted for. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with my tangent? What changes would you like to see? What are you happy with? How do you feel about the Big Beautiful Bill and DOGE? Let’s discuss it in the comments section.
