The Power Of Nature: Yellowstone Geyser Erupts Yet Again In Dramatic Video
Yellowstone National Park is home to Black Diamond Pool. Here, you’ll find a murky blue pool of water that was first formed by hydrothermal explosions. Last July, this same type of explosion caused a bit of chaos for the park. It was unexpectedly powerful, sending steam and debris in all directions — by hundreds of feet, reports say.
This particularly dangerous explosion even managed to destroy a nearby boardwalk. Plus, it was powerful enough to move rocks that weigh hundreds of pounds. Thankfully, the nearby visitors were not harmed. Because of this unexpected event, a webcam was installed on May 14 this year. A little over two weeks later, Yellowstone saw yet another explosion in that exact same area. See it for yourself in the video below.

A Year After Yellowstone National Park’s Surprisingly Powerful Explosion, Another One Takes Place at Black Diamond Pool
Unlike last year’s, this explosion is much tamer. Best of all, scientists are saying there is no reason to be concerned. Hydrothermal explosions take place when there’s a sudden transition from water to steam beneath shallow areas like Black Diamond Pool. After an explosion as big as the one last year, it’s expected for there to be smaller ones to follow. In fact, this is far from the first one to take place since then.
“It is likely that these small eruptions are a result of the hydrothermal plumbing system for the pool adjusting after the major disruption of the larger explosion last summer,” USGS Scientist-in-Charge Michael Poland explains.
Still, precautions are being taken to ensure that visitors to Yellowstone National Park remain safe. This means that, as of June 3, the parking lot and boardwalk at Biscuit Basin remain closed. Other than that, much remains the same in this beloved area. That said, if you haven’t been since last year’s explosion, the pool may look different. That’s because the explosion slightly altered its shape.
