Whiskey Myers Does It Again With Hypnotizing New Single “Tailspin”
These East Texas boys are cooking up heater after heater in the studio.
Whiskey Myers has done it once again with their brand new single “Tailspin,” which marks the second track the Southern rock outfit from Palestine has shared with fans since announcing their forthcoming record Whomp Whack Thunder. Produced by Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Ashley McBryde, Lainey Wilson) the new album is set for release this fall on September 26th via the band’s own Wiggy Thump Records.
Whiskey Myers’ lead guitarist John Jeffers says they went into the studio with no preconceived ideas of what they wanted it to be. Instead, let their inspirations and muses lead them:
“We didn’t set out to chase a specific sound—we set out to make a Whiskey Myers record. Jay pulled something out of us that’s raw and real, and every track’s got a piece of our story in it. This album’s about where we’ve been, what we’ve lived and the scars we earned along the way – and I think Whomp Whack Thunder might just be our most fearless album yet.”
Jeffers’ word choice of “fearless” accurately represents the first two singles from the record. “Time Bomb” was an electric lead single, and following that up with “Tailspin” has me itching for more.
The opening guitar lick of “Tailspin” comes out of the gate hot, highlighting intricate instrumentals before frontman Cody Canada’s gritty lyrics complement the melody effortlessly. Lyrically, “Tailspin” details a man who is spiraling downhill. He feels like he had his life together for a minute, but has decided that the straight and narrow lifestyle isn’t for him, and he will send it, succumbing to his vices.
“Gimme something to lean on
Something to quench my thirst
‘Cause I’m shaking like a dog and my head hurts
Gimme something to pick me up
Something to keep me in flight
Won’t you get me high, won’t you get me high
I was cruising for a little while
But now I’m in a tailspin
If I’m going out I’m going out in style
I’m headed for the bottom again…”
“Tailspin” is instantly addicting, and before releasing the tune, they shared an early listen with some fans at Tailgates N’ Tallboys. The fans who got an advanced listen hit the nail on the head with the words they chose to describe the single. With words like “sick,” “upbeat,” “cray instrumentals,” and “knock your socks off” said by fans, I could not agree more.
