What New York City Has to Look Forward To

Explore the implications of Marxism under NYC's new mayor, Zohran Mamdani.

New York City, of course, recently elected a "Marxist Muslim" as mayor of the city. How much of either (Marxism or Islam) Zohran Mamdani will be able to impose upon the city is yet to be determined, but that is what he calls himself. Marxism, as I shall demonstrate, is an all-encompassing world philosophy, but its main emphasis is on economics—socialism. Let's look at what the people of New York City have to look forward to if Mamdani gets his Marxist way.

The Abolition of Private Property

"The theory of Communism may be summed up in one sentence: Abolish all private property." It's the first point of Marx's "Communist Manifesto," and Mamdani said he believes it. Of course, what Marx and communists actually mean is "private property for me, but not for thee." Do you think Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) is going to sacrifice his three houses, or Ben and Jerry will give their land back to Native Americans?

Communism always has a "ruling class" ("nomenklatura"), and they do just fine, economically, thank you very much, with their lovely dachas in the countryside and new cars the peasants could never afford. Abolition of private property might be difficult for Mamdani in rich New York, but we'll see how he does.

The Destruction of Religion

"My object is to dethrone God and destroy capitalism." "Communism begins where atheism begins." "The first requisite for the happiness of the people is the abolition of religion." All these quotes are from Marx and present an interesting paradox for Mamdani, supposedly a devout Muslim. Is Allah pleased with Marx's denunciation of a God? Does Mamdani believe in Islam and Marxian economics? How is he going to divide it up? My guess is his commitment to Marxism is far greater than his commitment to Islam, but maybe not. Maybe he will try to turn NYC into a Muslim Mecca. It wouldn't surprise me.

Increased, Destructive Taxation

Marx wrote, "A heavy or progressive or graduated income tax is necessary for the proper development of Communism." Mamdani has already indicated that he wants to raise taxes. Of course, this is a part of Marxism that America succumbed to over a century ago in the so-called "Progressive Era" (16th Amendment), and the Democratic Party has never seen a tax it didn't like. The "rich" have to pay their "fair share," but the "rich" and "fair share" are never precisely defined. I suspect Mamdani will try to raise taxes in New York City, but since his main financial support comes from rich Democrats, he'll have to use caution in his approach. But not to worry too much; he'll take care of his nomenklatura.

Continued Rotten Education

"The education of all children, from the moment that they can get along without a mother's care, shall be in state institutions." As long as education remains in the hands of government, and especially of the leftists who have controlled it for the past 100 years, the American people will become dumber and dumber, and more enslaved to their government masters. Government has no incentive to shrink, wants more and more power until it has it all. That is why the Left screeches at the Founding Fathers and their virtuous, limited government. The last thing government wants is virtue in its people, which would create limits on its power. So, it's up to the "state" (government) to indoctrinate (brainwash) children into the need for more, bigger, and loving, caring government. And especially, as Marx said, "Keep people from their history and they are easily controlled."

Terror As a Weapon

"We have no compassion and we ask no compassion from you. When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror." Give Marx credit for being honest. He knows people will not give up their freedoms unless forced to, and that will call for terror, which has happened multiple times in the communist dictatorships over the past 100 years. His disciple, Vladimir Lenin, certainly understood his master: "Surely you do not imagine that we shall be victorious without applying the most cruel revolutionary terror?" "There are times when the interests of the proletariat call for ruthless extermination of its enemies." I wonder if anyone has asked Zohran Mamdani if he believes this. The Left will apply it in America if they ever get the chance and think it is necessary. And, it seems, the Left always thinks terror is necessary.

Marxism Makes the Rules

"For it [Marxism] nothing is final, absolute, sacred." And this, ultimately, is the reason why. Since there is no God, there are no eternal truths or absolutes. Men make up morality as they go along, and communist morality often requires terror and mass murder. But it's all in a good cause, you see. Marxists are trying to move the world toward the Great Socialist Utopia (called "communism"), and the sooner we can remove all obstacles, the sooner we can get to that wonderful paradise on earth. Removing God, religion, peasants, capitalism, and the bourgeoisie is good for mankind, for they are the major obstacles to the coming utopia. Nothing is final, absolute, or sacred, so the killing of masses of humanity is allowed when it will end in bringing in a better world. Doesn't the Left in America think the country is better off without Charlie Kirk? No conscience, no morality except as they define it, no limitations on what can be done to produce the communist Shangri-la.

Keep an eye on Mamdani and let's see how much of Marx's program he can hoodwink the people of New York City into accepting. They've already accepted a lot of it; now they have a man at the helm who says he really believes it and wants to apply it. Well, they elected him, I guess it's what they wanted, though I seriously doubt they really know what it is.
