Humans Are Living Longer All Across the world and the Male-Female Longevity Gap is Closing

Whether in the harshest parts of Africa or the richest parts of California‚ longevity in humans is increasing. Also‚ the gap between male and female life expectancy is narrowing‚ the researchers at Spain’s Universidad de Alcalá report in the journal PLoS One. The authors split world populations into five clusters and found each area demonstrated […] The post Humans Are Living Longer All Across the world and the Male-Female Longevity Gap is Closing appeared first on Good News Network.

Big Bad: Christopher Landon in Talks to Direct Adaptation of Chandler Baker Short Story

Christopher Landon‚ the writer-director behind horror films like Happy Death Day (pictured above) and Freaky‚ has a potential new project lined up after his departure from Scream VII. According to The Hollywood Reporter‚ Landon is in negotiations with Lionsgate‚ who is working on an adaptation of the Chandler Baker’s “Big Bad.” The short story appeared in the 2023 Audible-only anthology‚ Creature Feature‚ which also features tales by Grady Hendrix‚ Joe Hill‚ Josh Malerman‚ Paul Tremblay‚ and Jason Mott. Audible’s logline for “Big Bad” describes the story as follows: “For a family trying to make an isolated farmhouse into a home‚ fear and rage are getting harder to control.” That fear and rage phrase is a reference to werewolves‚ a beloved horror staple. Whether it’s the family members themselves turning into werewolves (is the call coming from inside the house?) or werewolves on the outside trying to murder the family‚ the threat isn’t revealed from the logline‚ so you’ll have to listen to the story yourself to find out where the lycanthropes lie. If Landon signs on to direct‚ this project will be the first one for him after leaving Scream VII late last year. The next sequel in the immensely popular Scream franchise has become enshrouded in controversy after news broke in November 2023 that neither Melissa Barrera nor Jenna Ortega would be returning for the film. The adaption of “Big Bad” is still in its early days‚ so no news yet on casting‚ much less when the movie will scare its way to a theater near you.

Minecraft Movie Adds More A-Listers to Cast‚ Including Kate McKinnon and Jemaine Clement

The casting announcements for the upcoming movie adaptation of Minecraft may cause more than one block-shaped eyebrow to lift. In addition to Jason Momoa and Jack Black (the latter of whom is reportedly playing the game’s main character‚ Minecraft Steve)‚ the film has tapped several other actors known for their comedic prowess. According to Deadline‚ the film will also include Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus‚ Legally Blonde)‚ Kate McKinnon (pictured above in Barbie)‚ Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords)‚ Emma Myers (the titular character’s roomie in Wednesday)‚ Danielle Brooks (Peacemaker)‚ and the young Sebastian Eugene Hansen. This concoction of actors begs speculation about what the plot of Minecraft will be. Will the young Hansen‚ who plays a boy named Henry‚ become sucked into the block-shaped Minecraft world? If Black is playing Minecraft Steve‚ who the heck is Momoa playing? And what will these movie stars look like on-screen‚ given most of them are likely from the universe of Minecraft‚ where everything is made out of blocks? The movie is currently filming in New Zealand‚ but we don’t know much about the plot yet. Director Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite‚ Nacho Libre) has said‚ however‚ that he’s trying to “avoid an ‘Ugly Sonic’ situation‚” and that‚ “I just can’t disappoint the 10-year-olds‚ or they’re going to murder us.” He added‚ “Trying to adapt something that doesn’t have a story—it’s an open sandbox game… I like the challenge. There’s got to be a fun‚ ridiculous movie here. And there is.” Minecraft is set to premiere in theaters on April 4‚ 2025.

‘Brave’ to Be Afraid of Trump! The View Tries to Rescue VP Harris from Their Interview

Vice President Kamala Harris made headlines earlier this week when she appeared on ABC’s The View and admitted that she was “scared” of former President Trump and the thought of him becoming president again. That kind of attention wasn’t good‚ so the cast came to her defense on Thursday to praise how “brave” Harris was for saying she’s “scared” of Trump. They also argued that she had every reason to rightly be scared of Trump. After playing a montage of clips from right-of-center news organizations talking about Harris’s comments‚ moderator Whoopi Goldberg lashed out by suggesting that they were somehow snowflakes: You know‚ you folks are the snowflakeiest people I've ever seen. You don't know what she's scared of. You don’t know? You haven't been listening to what this man has said he's going to do on day one? How he's treated women? You don't think we're uncomfortable when somebody‚ says‚ yeah‚ I'm the guy that got rid of Roe v. Wade? What do you mean‚ what are you scared of? The montage included a soundbite of Fox &; Friends co-host Lawrence Jones asking‚ “What are they scared of? It's‚ like‚ do MAGA supporters have some type of disease or something?” “Yeah‚” bitter co-host Joy Behar responded to him. Behar tried to explain away what Harris really meant when she said she was “scared” of Trump. “And Kamala basically‚ she's not personally scared. She's scared for the country because the country will have a problem if he is in office‚ and he also will go after his enemies. Hello?” she warned while gesturing to the cast as though they’d be worth that kind of effort.     Staunchly racist and anti-Semitic co-host Sunny Hostin took a different approach. She insisted Harris was right to be in a panic over Trump and everyone should be too. “She's the second most powerful person in the world and she's telling you to be very‚ very afraid‚” she declared. Hostin also dipped into hysterics and warned that Trump was going to topple America and be its destroyer. “We've seen it happen in history. There have been great nations that no longer exist because of someone like a Donald Trump‚” she proclaimed. Touting their interview with “the second most powerful person in the world – who happens to be a woman‚” Hostin insisted it should put to rest any criticism of Harris. “A this point I hope I never hear again she is not qualified to be the president‚” she pouted‚ arguing Harris was ready for when President Biden kicked the can. “Because she had the temperament‚ she had the knowledge‚ she had the demeanor‚ she had it all! And I think she proved to the world‚ in my opinion‚ she is ready to be that heartbeat away from Joe Biden‚” she argued. Hypocrisy was on full display with co-host Sara Haines‚ who praised Harris’s warnings and fear of Trump: I think that was also her strongest point and that's why it's funny that everyone in the conservative media ran with it‚ because you want straight-talking politicians. It's what resonates with me the most and in that moment you could tell she heard the question and was like‚ uh. Because either he is an existential threat to democracy which is scary or he’s not. But during their interview‚ Haines pressed Harris for the Biden campaign to ditch the doom and gloom predictions by citing their lack of traction with voters. “Attacks on Trump are not moving the needle. In fact‚ 91 indictments are not moving the needle. Voters want to hear about issues affecting their lives like the economy and the border‚” she said at the time. As they were nearing the end of the segment‚ Goldberg took another crack at trying to spin Harris’s fear as a strength. “There's nothing wrong with being afraid. It's what makes you get up and make a change. So‚ don't think that because somebody says they're afraid‚ it's a bad thing. There's nothing shameful about being afraid‚” she asserted. “I think it is kind of brave to say you're afraid.” The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: ABC’s The View January 18‚ 2024 11:03:22 a.m. Eastern (…) LAWRENCE JONES (Fox &; Friends): The question is what are they scared of? It's‚ like‚ do MAGA supporters have some type of disease or something? [Cuts back to live] JOY BEHAR (answering Jones): Yeah. [Laughter] WHOOPI GOLDBERG: You know‚ you folks are the snowflakeiest people I've ever seen. You’re – I’ll just pose – you know it’s too – I can't mess up now. [Laughter] BEHAR: What you just said‚ the guy himself has said I'm going to be a dictator on day one‚ I’m going to roll back Roe v. Wade – one of the few times he actually told the truth – and that is what you should be scared of. And Kamala basically‚ she's not personally scared. She's scared for the country because the country will have a problem if he is in office and he also will go after his enemies. Hello? [Gestures to The View cast] SARA HAINES: I think Alyssa is at risk the most. SUNNY HOSTIN: I think that’s what I took away from it. You know. I mean‚ yeah. She's the second most powerful person in the world and she's telling you to be very‚ very afraid. She's explaining to you that –Our democracy really is an experiment. We're a very young country and that experiment can fail in the hands of a dictator. We've seen it happen in history. There have been great nations that no longer exist because of someone like a Donald Trump And so‚ I want the second most powerful person in the world – who happens to be a woman – tell me‚ be very‚ very afraid. And what I liked about the interview yesterday is that she – at this point I hope I never hear again she is not qualified to be the president. BEHAR: That's right. HOSTIN: Because she had the temperament‚ she had the knowledge‚ she had the demeanor‚ she had it all! And I think she proved to the world‚ in my opinion‚ she is ready to be that heartbeat away from Joe Biden. (…) 11:06:54 a.m. Eastern HAINES: I think that was also her strongest point and that's why it's funny that everyone in the conservative media ran with it‚ because you want straight talking politicians. It's what resonates with me the most and in that moment you could tell she heard the question and was like‚ uh. Because either he is an existential threat to democracy which is scary or he’s not. BEHAR: Which he is. HAINES: But you can't have it both ways. When people were calling her out for being scared and you deciphered personally scared versus as an administration. If it's as scary as you're telling everybody it is‚ then you should also be saying it's scary but what I'm going to do is we're going to run harder‚ we’re going to go faster. And that's kind of what she did with that moment. On the heels of all the town halls and debates‚ I'm so tired of the canned alliteration like “from Bangkok to Baltimore‚ we got” – And so that was a moment where I felt she was so present that it was‚ like‚ real. (…) 11:09:23 a.m. Eastern GOLDBERG: The thing I want to say about this: There's nothing wrong with being afraid. It's what makes you get up and make a change. So‚ don't think that because somebody says they're afraid‚ it's a bad thing. [Applause ] There's nothing shameful about being afraid. HOSTIN: It’s brave to say that you’re afraid. GOLDBERG: I think it is kind of brave to say you're afraid.

Reid Demands Court Expansion‚ Baselessly Suggests It Will Overturn Desegregation

MSNBC’s Joy Reid welcomed The Nation’s justice correspondent and whatever the opposite of a voice of reason is Elie Mystal on to her Wednesday program for a uncalm and irrational discussion about how the Supreme Court’s skepticism towards the executive branch’s regulatory authority could lead to it reversing Brown v. Board of Education. According to Mystal‚ those who favor giving broad lawmaking power to nameless experts had a rough day before the Court and conservatives are turning to the Court because they keep losing elections which led Reid to project her desire that the Court align with her predetermined outcomes onto the Court’s conservatives: This is the reason that the idea of expanding the Court is starting to catch on even with people who originally opposed it because these guys have a political agenda and ending regulation other than the regulation they impose themselves‚ ending women's rights‚ ending women's rights to an abortion‚ ending civil rights‚ just basically rolling back the entire 20th century Supreme Court jurisprudence‚ they’re doing it so systematically that they’re not stoppable if you don’t expand the Court.     Because nothing says democracy like rule by anonymous technocrats. Reid and Mystal claim that Republicans are a pose to democracy and everything else that is good and decent‚ but as soon the Court signals that the Environmental Protection Agency may not be all powerful they go full anti-intuitionalist. It is also simply a fact that the Court has not overturned civil rights or women’s rights‚ but that didn’t stop Mystal from claiming‚ “At this point the difference between a progressive justice and a liberal justice versus conservative or Republican justice is that the liberals believe in facts and the conservatives believe in vibes and they are reviving out right now. They are winning on the vibes and remaking the law back in their image of the 1950s and the 1850s.” Keeping the unhinged hysteria going‚ Reid added‚ “Yeah‚ how long before they get to Brown v. Board or the case where it said‚ you know‚ segregation schools can't get tax cuts because that was what they were—” The idea that the Court would overturn Brown is ludicrous to anyone who has spent five seconds talking to an actual conservative‚ but Mystal still engaged in the delusion that it might happen‚ “It’s on Clarence Thomas's list. As long as you leave Ginni alone‚ Clarence Thomas is interested in getting rid of that case. Reid retorted‚ “Yeah‚ he not going to mess with interracial marriage‚ he’s going to keep that one because that’s his own family.” Or maybe because‚ despite what MSNBC tells you‚ conservative justices actually do care about the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. They just don’t think it is a catch all term for “whatever Joy Reid wants.” Here is a transcript for the January 17 show: MSNBC The ReidOut 1/17/2024 7:51 PM ET JOY REID: This is the reason that the idea of expanding the Court is starting to catch on even with people who originally opposed it because these guys have a political agenda and ending regulation other than the regulation they impose themselves‚ ending women's rights‚ ending women's rights to an abortion‚ ending civil rights‚ just basically rolling back the entire 20th century Supreme Court jurisprudence‚ they’re doing it so systematically that they’re not stoppable if you don’t expand the Court. ELIE MYSTAL: At this point the difference between a progressive justice and a liberal justice versus conservative or Republican justice is that the liberals believe in facts and the conservatives believe in vibes and they are reviving out right now.  They are winning on the vibes and remaking the law back in their image of the 1950s and the 1850s.  REID: Yeah‚ how long before they get to Brown v.
