Syrian didn't get SEB jobs - African manager called "black piece of shit"

A 31-year-old immigrant man in the Stockholm area has been sentenced to day's fine for insulting after he called a recruiter at SEB a "nigger" and "black piece of shit". The reason was that he did not get the job he applied for at the big bank.

It is the summer of 2021 that the 31-year-old is looking for a position at SEB. A dark-skinned English-speaking woman has been given the task of being responsible for "screening" the applicants. Among other things, she tasks the candidates with completing logic and personality tests.

After passing the tests, the 31-year-old is included in a "final list" of candidates. He has high hopes of getting the job.

Says no
The recruiter presents the candidates to business area managers at the bank. They in turn hold half-hour long interviews with each candidate to see if any of them are interesting.

After the interview, it is decided that the 31-year-old will not get the advertised position.

- I thought he was a good fit. Others in the group did not, says the recruiter in police interrogation.

The 31-year-old then receives a standard email in which he is informed that the bank has chosen to proceed with another candidate.

"Black piece of shit"
After being cheated by the bank, the 31-year-old gets angry and sends several angry text messages to the female recruiter.

"You fucking black piece of shit", "you are not welcome to Sweden, we are white people here" and "Nigger", he writes, among other things, in text messages to the recruiter.

The bank reports the angry and abusive text messages to the police.

- It's not just up to me. The bank has its own rules and processes that must be followed, says the female recruiter about the 31-year-old not getting the job.

She says that after the incident she "travelled to Lagos to be in a place where black people are not seen as deviant".

From Syria
It is not only SEB's recruiters who have a foreign background. So does the 31-year-old. He was born in Sweden, but the child of immigrants who came to Sweden from Syria during the 90s.

The 31-year-old has previously been convicted of unlawful threats since he threatened to shoot dead a woman he got in touch with via the internet, but who ditched him after the first date. After being rejected, he wrote a post on the internet about "shooting her in the forehead".

Now the 31-year-old is once again convicted of a crime. 50 daily fines of SEK 490 for insulting. He is also ordered to pay SEK 10,000 in damages to the SEB employee woman.

After charges were brought against the 31-year-old, his wife has requested a divorce from him. It is, according to court documents, something he first agreed to, then opposed.
