The Selfie Surveillance State: How Digital ID Systems May Soon Decide if You Fly

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. In the US, the Remote Identity Validation Technology Demonstration (RIVTD) – a scheme to evaluate biometric digital ID systems that has been in the works since 2022, is now in the final stages of development. The involved government agencies include the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Forensic Laboratory, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Among the things RIVTD is there to evaluate and assess is identity verification when photos are taken with phones, including the “liveliness of selfies.” The system is being developed in three stages – called “tracks” – of which the third and final, dedicated to said “liveliness,” is now in progress. The idea here is to ensure that a true selfie is submitted, instead of an image of a digital or physical photograph. Another thing those behind RIVTD want to avoid is people using masks instead of “taking an actual selfie in real-time,” say reports. The first two “tracks” concerned the assessment of the validity of documents like ID cards or driver’s licenses, with the second turning the focus on how selfies match photos on ID documents. The need for all this is explained by TSA as a way to fend off “bad actors or impersonators” in the looming world of remote self-enrollment that uses a person’s digital identity. The DHS, on the other hand, talks about “risk-based decision-making.” “Such decision making may involve determining whether an individual is eligible to receive specific services or benefits or ascertaining if an individual is a known or suspected threat,” the agency is quoted as stating. RIVTD is to be used in both REAL ID and “legacy documents” – and REAL ID “compliance” will from May 2025 be necessary for documents travelers use for domestic flights in the US. The digital version of REAL ID is coming soon, thanks to the REAL ID Modernization Act. If you wonder what happens to the biometric data and photos that TSA collects, the agency says they are deleted once the identity verification process is complete. Except, that is – when it’s stored for up to two years. One of the reasons is to be able to launch systems like RIVDT – i.e., data retention is justified by the need to help with “testing and development.” If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. CBS: DNC Has Better Music Because 'They Travel,' Focus On 'Common Humanity'

Before Kamala Harris formally accepted the Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday, CBS Mornings sought to answer a critically important question: “Why is it that the Democrats' music is just better?” Co-host Tony Dokoupil mused that it is because they travel more, while The Daily Show’s Ronny Chieng surmised it was because art best fits inside a left-wing worldview. King asked Chieng, “Are you curious to see what Kamala Harris walks out to tonight? I am.” As Chieng affirmed he was, King proceeded, “I know she's been playing Beyonce's ‘Freedom’ at all of her stops, but I wonder if it's going to be something different tonight.”     While considering Harris’s musical selection, Chieng came up with a question of his own as “Freedom” played in the background, “Yeah, she gonna mix it up. Yeah, I thought it would be Beyonce, the way she's played that a few times, maybe, yeah, I don't know what she would play, but it’s interesting who – why is it that the Democrats' music is just better, right? Why is that?” Dokoupil had a theory, “John Legend answered this question, I mean, he says musicians and creatives tend to be Democrats because they travel… They meet more people. Yeah, they meet more people.” Does Dokoupil really think Republicans don’t travel or take vacations? In 2021, Pew Research wrote, “When it comes to party affiliation, there are no significant differences in the share of Republicans and Democrats who have traveled internationally or in the number of countries they have visited.” Chieng had his own idea, “Maybe it’s something about, you know, creating art that speaks to a common humanity that, you know, has more of a left-wing bend, but I don't know what I'm talking about; it's 6:00 a.m.” Art is simply the creative expression of an idea. It has nothing inherently to do with “common humanity.” Both Chieng and Dokoupil’s theories are just elitist, pseudo-intellectual ways of saying liberals and Democrats are more sophisticated people than the simplistic rubes who vote Republican. Here is a transcript for the August 22 show: CBS Mornings 8/22/2024 9:33 AM ET GAYLE KING Are you curious to see what Kamala Harris walks out to tonight? I am. RONNY CHIENG: Yeah, I am. KING: I know she's been playing Beyonce's "Freedom"— CHIENG: Yeah. KING: —at all of her stops, but I wonder if it's going to be something different tonight. CHIENG: Yeah, she gonna mix it up. Yeah, I thought it would be Beyonce, the way she's played that a few times, [Beyonce’s “Freedom plays in background] maybe, yeah, I don't know what she would play, but it’s interesting who – why is it that the Democrats' music is just better, right? Why is that? [Song stops] TONY DOKOUPIL: John Legend answered this question, I mean, he says musicians and creatives tend to be Democrats because they travel. KING: Is that what he said? DOKOUPIL: They meet more people. Yeah, they meet more people. CHIENG: Maybe it’s something about, you know, creating art that speaks to a common humanity that, you know, has more of a left-wing bend, but I don't know what I'm talking about; it’s 6:00 a.m.

Provisions: Broken Bow Country

Broken Bow Country Category: Art and Apparel Founder: Colton Patterson See also Align's interview with Patterson. Founded: 2023 Representative products: Official John Wayne T-shirts, cowboy-themed T-shirts, art prints, stickers At a glance: In less than a year, Patterson has amassed nearly 750,000 followers with his Instagram posts and artwork. He’s only 17 years old, a student at Columbine High School. He has used his platform of over half a million followers on Instagram to raise more than $10,000 through the sale of original artwork for victims in the recent assassination attempt against former president Donald Trump. Patterson has a sizeable following for the artwork and content he creates for country and Western music. In their own words (CEO Colton Patterson): What I realized very early on is that like no one will care about it until you just put it in front of them and you've shown that you can add value to their life. Because I imagine I could have started with the drawings, I could have posted them as much as I wanted, but until you're in front of people, until they know you have the credibility and the ethos, they're not going to care for the most part. I just think cowboys are cool. Regarding his Trump fundraiser: This has nothing to do with politics. I was incredibly moved by what happened, and I wanted to use my platform to do something that extended beyond the controversy and the arguing. I couldn't care less about what nasty things people have to say about it online and the politics around it. All I know is that at the end of the day, I used a unique privilege to give back to people that needed it, and that’s all that matters to me.=

Manhunt launched for sex offender who allegedly threatened to assassinate Trump during border visit

Law enforcement launched an intense manhunt for an Arizona man who allegedly threatened to assassinate former President Donald Trump during his Thursday visit to the southern border. Arizona authorities are hunting down Ronald Lee Syrvud — a convicted sex offender — regarding several outstanding warrants and alleged threats of killing Trump during the former president's visit to the southern border in Cochise County, according to the Daily Mail. Trump is touring the border town of Sierra Vista, where running mate JD Vance visited three weeks ago.The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office stated in a Facebook post, "Syrvud is being sought as an investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate."Police noted that the suspect's outstanding warrants include a DUI and failure to appear in court in Wisconsin, failure to register as a sex offender, and felony hit and run in Arizona.Law enforcement said Syrvud is a resident of Benson — roughly 50 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border and 50 miles southeast of Tucson, Arizona. The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office described Syrud as a 66-year-old white male who wears eyeglasses, stands 6 feet tall, and weighs 220 pounds. Police are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect to contact their local law enforcement agency or dial 911. Trump announced his visit to "inspect the southern border" and "meet with the victims whose loved ones were attacked and murdered by illegal aliens" in a Truth Social message posted on Thursday morning.Trump is touring the border town of Sierra Vista, where running mate JD Vance visited three weeks ago.The Cochise County Sheriff's Office hosted Sen. Vance for his tour of the southern border. Cochise County Sheriff Office Operations Commander Robert Watkins said of the visit by the Republican vice presidential candidate, "You might be able to go to middle America and learn about fentanyl, or you come to the source."In 2022, over 23% of all fentanyl pills seized in the country were from the Tucson Sector.Trump's event in Sierra Vista was scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. ET.The latest threat against the former president comes just six weeks after the assassination attempt on Trump by Thomas Matthew Crooks during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Since the attempted assassination attempt on July 13, Trump has held only one outdoor rally event. During an outdoor campaign rally in North Carolina on Wednesday, Trump was protected by a bulletproof glass structure during his appearance. Like Blaze News? The Democrats’ ‘Book Ban’ Fiction Is Pure Projection

The book-ban myth is just that. And when it served Democrats’ purposes, everyone knew the difference between curation and prohibition.
