The album Paul McCartney used to educate his kids musically

Paul McCartney is one of the most prolific and successful songwriters of all time, he is one of the few artists who had the chance to sell more than 100 million records worldwide both as a member of a band and as a solo act. His songwriting partnership with John Lennon created some of the most covered songs of all time and were crucial to the evolution of not only Rock and Roll, but music in general. The Beatles albums are crucial to someone who wants to know what Rock and Roll is but McCartney himself, used another record to educate his kids musically as he once said. The album Paul McCartney used to educate his kids musically The parents are always worried about their kids' education and McCartney wanted to educate them musically too, so as he said in an interview with David Leaf back in 1990, he bought each one of them a copy of The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds". “The early surf records…I was aware of them as a musical act, and I used to like all that, but I didn’t get deeply interested in it—it was just a real nice sound. We used to admire the singing, the high falsetto really and the very sort of ‘California’ lyrics." “It was later, it was Pet Sounds that blew me out of the water. First of all, it was Brian’s writing. I love the album so much. I’ve just bought my kids each a copy of it for their education in life. I figure no one is educated musically ’til they’ve heard that album. I was into the writing and the songs. The other thing that really made me sit up and take notice was the bass lines on Pet Sounds." He continued: "If you were in the key of C, you would normally use—the root note would be, like, a C on the bass (demonstrates vocally). You’d always be on the C. I’d done a little bit of work, like on ‘Michelle,’ where you don’t use the obvious bass line. And you just get a completely different effect if you play a G when the band is playing in C. There’s a kind of tension created. “I don’t really understand how it happens musically, because I’m not very technical musically. But something special happens. And I noticed that throughout that Brian would be using notes that weren’t the obvious notes to use. As I say, ‘the G if you’re in C—that kind of thing. And also putting melodies in the bass line. That I think was probably the big influence that set me thinking when we recorded Pepper, it set me off on a period I had then for a couple of years of nearly always writing quite melodic bass lines,” Paul McCartney said. Paul said Brian Wilson is one of his biggest influences https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u90beUXTKwo&pp=ygUUZ29kIG9ubHkga25vd3MgYmVhY2g%3D Paul has always been a huge fan of The Beach Boys and their main songwriter Brian Wilson. He even admitted that it was after hearing "Pet Sounds" that The Beatles decided to experiment more, resulting in the recording of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" in 1967. In an interview with Reverb back in 2018, McCartney mentioned Wilson as one of his biggest influences. “Brian (is one of my biggest influences) because he went to very unusual places. Brian would use, if you were playing in C, he might stay on the G a lot just to hold it all back. started to realize the power you had within the band.” He continued: “Not actually vengeful power, just that you could actually. Even though the whole band is going in A you could go in E, and they’d go, Let us off the hook! And you’re actually in control then, an amazing thing. So I sussed that and got particularly interested in playing the bass,” Paul McCartney said. Brian Wilson also loves The Beatles and Paul McCartney. He even said that "Rubber Soul" (1965) was a big inspiration for "Pet Sounds", so both bands inspired each other to write some of the most influential albums of all time. The two musicians had the chance to play together a few times over the decades performing especially "God Only Knows". He recalled that experience in an interview with guitarist Ronnie Wood in 2013 (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage). “I got to sing it with Brian once, when we did a benefit (show) together. I was okay at the actual performance, I held it together. But at the rehearsal, at the soundcheck I lost it, because it’s very emotional, this song, I find it. (I was thinking) ‘Oh my god, i’m singing with Brian’, just got me, I couldn’t. And all it is, it’s little vibrations reaching your music, it’s only little vibrations, little words and little things. There is this powerful effect, you know,” McCartney said. Paul also had the pleasure to be the one who inducted Brian Wilson into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. McCartney said that "God Only Knows" was the best song ever written https://youtu.be/n5UqaBfolcc McCartney loves "God Only Knows" and during the interview with David Leaf back in 1990, the musician said that "God Only Knows" was the best song ever written “It’s a really, really great song, it’s a big favorite of mine. I was asked recently to give my top ten favorite songs for a Japanese radio station. I didn’t think long and hard on it. But I popped that (“God Only Knows”) on the top of my list. (Thinks for a moment) It’s very deep. (Quotes the lyrics to ‘God Only Knows’). Very emotional, always a bit of a choker for me, that one. There are certain songs that just hit home with me, and they’re the strangest collection of songs. But that is high on the list, I must say,” Paul McCartney said. Written by Wilson and the songwriter Tony Asher, "God Only Knows" is one of the most famous songs featured on "Pet Sounds".The post The album Paul McCartney used to educate his kids musically appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

In an antitrust suit that began in the Trump years, the DOJ has scored a big win in showing Google to be exercising monopoly control of search results. It has been illegally exploiting its monopolistic dominance in search results to the detriment of competitors. ISIS plot against Taylor Swift concert narrowly foiled — but police warn there could still be a threat to her sold-out shows

Police say they have narrowly foiled an ISIS plot to attack a Taylor Swift concert in Austria — and there could still be a threat to the super star’s European shows. Two suspects — a 19-year-old living in his parents’ house near Vienna, along with another man — were arrested Wednesday after police raided the home, according to the Austrian outlet Kronen Zeitung. A bomb squad found various chemicals and substances potentially being used to make explosives, and evacuated the home.

As Iran Braces for War, Its Citizens Are Kept in the Dark

All government agencies and offices were closed Wednesday in Tehran, and in 13 provinces, including some along the western and eastern borders, hours for government offices were limited to 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Iran also issued a notice to civilian aviation, warning that “gunfire will take place” for several hours on Wednesday night and into Thursday over parts of the country. As Iran prepares to follow through on its vow to “severely punish” Israel over the assassination of the Hamas leader...

Abortion Numbers Up Since Roe v. Wade Overturned: Study

In the wake of the Supreme Court's landmark decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022, abortion rates across the U.S. have slightly increased according to a report released Wednesday. The quarterly #WeCount report by the Society of Family Planning attributes this increase largely to new laws in Democratic-led states protecting doctors who use telemedicine to provide abortion services in states with bans. The data arrives at a critical juncture as the November elections approach,...

‘That’s Shameful’: JD Vance Rips Tim Walz For Dipping From National Guard Before Iraq Deployment

Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance knocked presumptive Democratic vice presidential nominee and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s “shameful” exit from the Army National Guard before his deployment to Iraq during a Wednesday press conference. Veterans who served in the Army National Guard battalion with Walz accused him of abandoning them upon learning of their upcoming deployment to Iraq in 2005, according to a 2018 letter posted to Facebook. Vance said Walz should be...

The four magic phrases to use when you’re stopped by the cops

The four magic phrases to use when you’re stopped by the cops

Whether it's a traffic stop that turns into "We smell something in your car" or a "driving while black" situation, you have rights when you're pulled over, and it's for the best if you actually use them.So how does this work, anyway? Well, you have rights when you're pulled over. These have been established via case law, and ultimately, some stem from the Constitution itself. In order, here are the magic phrases, along with some graphics to help you remember.1. "Am I free to go?”In any situation involving the police, you can ask this question. Some people ask it slightly differently: "Am I being detained?"—which is a version of the same question. Basically, if they've got nothing on you, they have to let you go. If they answer no to that question, you are in fact not free to go. In that case, you are suspected of doing something, and it's their job to try to get you to admit to it or to say a bit too much and incriminate yourself.2. "I do not consent to any searches.”One of the trickiest things that some law enforcement folks try is to talk you into letting them search your vehicle—or house, for that matter. "So if you haven't done anything, then you're ok with us searching your car … right? I mean, if you're innocent. We'll go easier on you if you let us." Do NOT give up your rights that easily. Are you certain your buddy didn't leave a bag of weed in the glove box? Are you sure your boyfriend took his target pistol out of the trunk after he went to practice shooting the other day? Are you absolutely certain that the body in your trunk was removed and buried in that farm fiel … whoops. Did I say that last one out loud?! The point is, don't give up your rights easily. And believe me, cops are gooooood at trying to play psychological games. Which leads to #3.3. "I want to remain silent.”You have that right, and if things start getting thick, you need to use it. "We clocked you going 60 in a 50, but when you opened your window to give us your license, we smelled marijuana." The correct answer to something like this is, "I want to remain silent." The temptation is to say, "Yeah, my buddy and I smoked in my car this morning but I wasn't driving, blah blah blah"—but then you're already nailed. Time for them to get the dogs and search. Congratulations, you're on your way to the pokey for the night.4. "I want a lawyer.”If you've reach this particular point, then you're in deep doodoo anyway, so go ahead and ask for one, and say nothing until he or she arrives. Remember these four things. It will be hard in the moment, with your adrenaline pumping, your freedom in question, and when you're possibly in physical danger, depending on the cops involved and your skin color."Am I free to go?""I do not consent to any searches.""I want to remain silent.""I want a lawyer."Perhaps a word involving the first letter of the four statements will help you remember: FoSSiL (Free, Searches, Silent, Lawyer)Or maybe a mnemonic:— Fiscal Suns Scramble Lives— Fresh Sushi Smell Lemons— Flexible Straws Sell Lobsters— Free Subjects Steam LobstersThe clip below is a shortened version of a much longer one that explains your rights, detailing what you can and cannot do in these situations. This article was written by Brandon Weber and originally appeared on 09.12.17
