Ian Gillan explains why Ian Paice is the most important member of Deep Purple

Deep Purple was formed back in 1968 and was active until 1976, being inactive for eight before their reunion in 1984. Since then the group keeps recording and touring around the world, but obviously, with several line-up changes when it comes to guitarists, especially. They are currently promoting their new album "=1" and the band is formed nowadays by Ian Gillan (Vocals), Ian Paice (Drums), Roger Glover (Bass), Don Airey (Keyboards) and Simon McBride (Guitar). In an interview with The Sun, the singer Ian Gillan said that the most important member of the band is Ian Paice. He is the only member of the group who was part of all the releases. Ian Gillan explains why Ian Paice is the most important member of Deep Purple “Oh, those guys! (The Rhythm section). Gillan then cries and continues: “Without them, you wouldn’t have a rhythm section. Without a rhythm section, all the solos mean nothing. Ian Paice grew up as a child in a musical family, the same as me. And he’s been the rock behind the band since it started." “He’s the founding father now that Jon (Lord) is gone and the only rock drummer I know that swings. That’s because of the way he grew up and his influences. I’ve played Smoke On The Water with some heavy metal drummers and some very famous drummers. Not one of them has played it right. They were all bashing the hell out of the drum kit. Ian lets the music do its work. It’s in his bones and he’s probably the most important member of the band,” Ian Gillan said. Born in Nottingham, England back in 1948, Ian Paice started his musical career in the early 60s, when he was still a teenager. Besides being part of the entire Deep Purple discography, he also worked over the decades with other artists in a few recording sessions. Some of them were Gary Moore, Velvet Underground, Paul McCartney and George Harrison. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE1JtpJm_6g&pp=ygUdZGVlcCBwdXJwbGUgaGlnaHdheSBzdGFyIDIwMjQ%3DThe post Ian Gillan explains why Ian Paice is the most important member of Deep Purple appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Ian Gillan says Sabbath is more important than Purple and Zeppelin

Ian Gillan says Sabbath is more important than Purple and Zeppelin

Over the decades, fans and journalists named Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin as the "unholy trinity" of British heavy Rock music. All those groups were formed in the late 60s and really became big in the early 70s, inspiring countless other artists. The vocalist Ian Gillan was lucky enough to have been part of two of those bands: Deep Purple, obviously, and Black Sabbath (From 1982 to 1984), recording with them the album "Born Again" (1983). In an interview with The Sun, the singer talked about that "unholy trinity" and said that Sabbath probably was the most important band of the three. Ian Gillan says Sabbath is more important than Purple and Zeppelin "Just like ‘sex, drugs and rock and roll’, the ‘unholy trinity’ was created entirely by our good friends the music journalists. We knew them, drank with them and they put into words what everyone was doing — something distinctive and identifiable.” “To a certain extent, Sabbath were the most important because without them there would have been no Seattle (grunge scene) or Heavy Metal. What Tony was delivering in those early days was just awesome. It was so powerful.” “The three bands did something that had never been done before. They were putting into action all the things that had been building up over the previous ten years,” Ian Gillan said. When Gillan joined Black Sabbath, they had lost Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Appice, who left the group. So they had the original drummer Bill Ward back and the then former Deep Purple singer. Although many fans loved "Born Again", the band didn't like the mixing. Iommi said many times that they liked the result but then the person in charge changed something that made the album sound bad. Gillan is currently promoting the new Deep Purple studio album "=1", which is the first one with the new guitarist Simon McBride. They have many scheduled tour dates in 2024 to promote the new album, you can check them out here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkTiWGGd-_EThe post Ian Gillan says Sabbath is more important than Purple and Zeppelin appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Cherie Currie says Rush sabotaged Runaways set back in the 70s

The Runaways was one of the first heavier Rock and Roll bands formed by only women. They were together from 1975 to 1979 and released four successful studio albums. The classic line-up had Joan Jett (Guitar, vocals), Lita Ford (Guitar), Sandy West (Drums), Cherie Currie (Vocals) and Jackie Fox (Bass), and they had hits like “Cherry Bomb” and “Queens of Noise”. Sadly, rock and roll music hasn’t been diverse during its existence, as it has always been dominated by white men. Nowadays we have much more all-female groups but back in the 70s it was really something new and when The Runaways appeared, they really impressed a lot of people. But as Cherie Currie told Metal Voice (Transcribed by Classic Rock), the group didn't had a good experience with the Canadian power trio Rush. Cherie Currie says Rush sabotaged Runaways set back in the 70s "We had been treated so well by Tom Petty who opened for us and Cheap Trick who opened for us but Rush sabotaged our set. We're at Detroit's Cobo Hall. It's a big venue. I saw them and they were throwing pieces of paper just like standard 8 by 10 paper onto the stage whipping it like you would a pizza. I was in 6-in platform boots and I had to jump off of Sandy West's drum Riser." "I hit one of those pieces of paper and I slid across that stage and there was an orchestra pit with all the photographers. I'll never forget seeing them reach up with fear that I was going to go over and somehow I caught myself right at the last minute and did one of those you know (rock star poses) to one of the photographers." "I could have been paralyzed. I'm not exaggerating, I could have been very much injured had I gone off that stage. So that's why Joan and I in particular don't care much for them because they weren't protecting us, they were sabotaging us that night and they would be sitting there behind Lita's [Ford] amp [snickering]," Cherie Currie said. As a solo artist, Cherie released seven studio albums, the most recent one being "The Motivator", released in 2019. https://www.reddit.com/r/ClassicRock/comments/1bpfi38/rush_and_the_runaways_1977_neil_peart_joan_jett/ The post Cherie Currie says Rush sabotaged Runaways set back in the 70s appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Bob Dylan announces new tour dates and no cameras are allowed

It's not easy to find on the internet many new photos or videos of Bob Dylan playing when compared to other artists. The main reason is that he usually doesn't allow the fans to use their phones to record or take pictures during his show. Constantly on the road since he started more than six decades ago, Dylan announced new tour dates in 2024. The new dates are in Europe and are being promoted in partnership with Yondr, which is tech firm that has as their main product the "Yondr Pouch", a device in which a person's phone may remain in their possession but unusable within a designated area, for example a school and venue. While the concert is happening they can't unlock the device but there is a "free zone" they can go to and have access to the phone if necessary.
