Boston police commissioner supports DEI, says officers won't enforce ICE detainers over state law

The police commissioner for the city of Boston said that his officers are prohibited from enforcing immigration law and will not respond to detainers issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Commissioner Michael Cox also said during the interview with WCVB-TV on Sunday that he still supports diversity, equity, and inclusion policies in his department. 'Civil detainers are the defining line, that we just don’t do that because it's immigration-related.' “The Boston Police Department has pretty defined rules, and we abide by the law here in the state, and we don’t enforce civil detainers regarding federal immigration law,” Cox said. “Our department abides by Boston law and Massachusetts law. We don’t have the authority to enforce federal immigration law." He went on to explain the difference between federal warrants, which he would enforce, and detainers. “What people don’t understand is there is a difference between criminal warrants and civil detainers,” Cox continued. “Any criminal warrant is someone wanted outside the state, and if there is a warrant involved, we will absolutely enforce it, including federal ones, if there is a warrant involved, because we’re almost mandated to. But civil detainers are the defining line, that we just don’t do that because it's immigration-related.”Cox also defended the efficacy of diversity policies in hiring Boston police department members. “I think it is tremendously important,” Cox responded. “Boston is a very diverse city, from all walks, all religions, all parts of life, so we want our department to reflect that because we deal with all parts of our city.”He claimed that studies showed diversity policies made organizations more successful and effective. “If someone doesn’t belong in our department, we remove them, but we have a pretty stringent application process to make sure we bring on the right people," he said. "It’s really important that our department reflects the city, and I think it shows up in how we do our job every single day. It has been shown over the years, certainly in business studies, that diverse groups, teams, tend to make better decisions, and actually, even in the private sector, they tend to do better," Cox added. "When you come from a different perspective, you’re informing someone who's making a decision about a blind spot that they otherwise wouldn’t know about, which makes for better decision-making.”President Donald Trump's border czar Thomas Homan warned local officials against opposing enforcement of immigration law and implied that the administration would seek criminal charges against them. School staffer caught on camera engaging in sex acts with student on campus, sent explicit videos to minor: Court docs

A school staffer in Idaho was caught on camera engaging in sexual acts with a student, according to court documents. The staffer is also accused of sending explicit photos and videos to a minor. Mary Strong — a 53-year-old resident of Clarkston, Washington — was arrested on a felony charge of sexual battery of a minor.Court docs said Strong denied all of the allegations of child sex abuse but claimed she could have been drunk and did not remember sending any messages to the underage student. Nez Perce County Judge Victoria Olds set her bond at $100,000. “A $100,000 bail is a very reasonable request by the state considering the nature of the offense and the information contained in the affidavit of probable cause,” Olds reportedly said at Strong's first court appearance Tuesday. Strong was a staff member at Tammany High School in the Lewiston Independent School District.Citing court records, KREM-TV reported that "Strong worked as a classified staff member, not a teacher, and is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 16- or 17-year-old student."The high school's current online staff page does not list Strong as an employee. However, an archived page from December shows Strong working in the "special education" department. The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office said a Tammany High School administrator on Valentine's Day alerted a resource officer at the school of a potential inappropriate relationship between a staff member and a student. The sheriff's office launched an investigation into the child sex abuse allegations. Citing court documents, KHQ-TV reported that the relationship became sexual on Feb. 4, when the student and Strong were alone in a classroom.Strong engaged in sex acts with the student on the school campus, according to court documents obtained by KREM.The New York Post reported that Strong was "caught on camera engaging in sexual acts with the student on school grounds, sparking the criminal investigation."Investigators reportedly discovered that Strong sent explicit videos and photos to a student on the Snapchat messaging app. Deputies said Strong initially denied having a Snapchat account but later allegedly admitted to using the app after illicit images were presented. Court docs said Strong denied all of the allegations of child sex abuse but claimed she could have been drunk and did not remember sending any messages to the underage student.Lewiston School District Superintendent Lance Hansen said additional support staff was sent to Tammany High School to address concerns.Tammany High School Principal Greg Kramasz wrote in a letter to parents about a "serious matter" that occurred at the school. Kramasz said he was made aware of a possible "inappropriate relationship between a staff member and a student."The principal noted that the school notified law enforcement as soon as the child sex crime accusations surfaced and that the school is "fully cooperating with the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office to ensure that the facts are thoroughly examined."The sheriff's office said this is an ongoing investigation and urges anyone with information on the case to contact Det. Patrick Dupea at 208-799-3131.The Post said the sheriff's office did not immediately respond to its request for comment.Strong is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 26. 'Disgusting': Maine defies Trump order, enables teen transvestite to demolish female competitors

President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Feb. 5 banning male transvestites from competing in girls' or women's sports. After noting that "men claiming to be girls have stolen more than 3,500 victories" and have "invaded more than 11,000 competitions designed for women," Trump said that "from now on, women's sports will be only for women." In defiance of Trump's order — which reflected the desire of the supermajority of Americans, as indicated by a 2023 Gallup poll — the Maine Principals' Association, the governing body for sports in the state, and the Maine Department of Education decided to let middling male athletes continue to steal victories from their female counterparts. A subpar male athlete from Greely High School in Cumberland proved more than willing on Monday to take full advantage, stealing first place in the girls' pole-vault competition at the Maine Indoor Track Meet. 'This is outrageous.' The 10th-grader, who the Maine Wire indicated previously competed in boys' pole vaulting under the name John, now calls himself Katie. The male athlete formerly known as John jumped 11 feet, beating his female competitors but missing the state record set last year by Sarah Ouellette of Morse High School by an inch. Had the transvestic teen competed against other males in the same competition, he would have reportedly come in 10th place. "Another day, another instance of an unremarkable biological male athlete (who couldn't win against other males) dominating girls' sports," wrote Republican state Rep. Laurel Libby. "The Maine Principals' Association's blatant disregard for federal rules means that deserving, BIOLOGICAL girls, have titles ripped away from them. This is outrageous, and unfair to the many female athletes who work every single day to succeed in their respective sports," added Libby. Allen Cornwall, a concerned coach from Scarborough High School, anticipated that the pole-vaulter formerly known as John would clean up in the girls' competition, telling the Maine Wire earlier this month that the 10th-grader was going to be the girls' conference "champion" and "state champion." "These girls that have been competing for years, working towards this, are just being sidelined, and it's really disgusting," said Cornwall. Maine is at risk of losing federal education funding for continuing to betray female athletes, defying Trump's order, and likely violating Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Claude 4 will soon compete with ChatGPT’s best new features

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman laid out the company's ChatGPT plans for the near future. After plenty of speculation and rumors about the next big ChatGPT upgrades, we know that GPT-4.5 and GPT-5.0 models will be available to users in the coming weeks. But it's not just OpenAI that is about to drop big AI upgrades. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said in an interview about a month ago that Claude will receive a reasoning model similar to ChatGPT's o1 and o3. Also, Claude will catch up to ChatGPT in another big way, as it'll support internet searches. Amodei did not specify timelines for either upgrade, but it looks like it's all coming soon. Anthropic has yet to announce the new Claude features, but someone poked through a recent update for the iPhone app and found a few telling clues. The Claude app includes new icons that seem to confirm the latest features. They also suggest Anthropic might give Claude a big upgrade, which people call Claude 4 online. Continue reading...
