As the night wore on, the mood got more dire at MSNBC. I think I'm not the only one whose heart is breaking right now. There are a lot of people who watch this tonight and felt terribly for Joe Biden and you know, you have to ask, how did we get here? How did we get to the point that we are spending a whole lot of time talking about the vice president tonight instead of talking about the president, and I don't know how the rest of the story is written. I don't know if things can be done to fix this. They might, and Trump is so terrible that this might heal itself, but based on what I'm hearing from a lot of people, and some of them are people that are in high elective offices in this country and you might guess where they serve, there is a lot more than handwringing tonight. I do think people feel like that we are confronting a crisis. It doesn’t take a whole lot to figure out that the former Democrat Senator is talking about her former colleague and current Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, as the one doing “a lot more than handwringing tonight”. McCaskill herself is trying to conjure up an alternative ticket, positing later in the interview: MCCASKILL: Those two people (Vice President Kamala Haris and CaliforniaGov. Gavin Newsom) are signaling to a whole lot of Americans that are paying attention, “how come they're not running? How come the Democratic Party doesn't have them at the top of the ticket instead of using them to shore up what had become after tonight some pretty glaring weaknesses in our president? Beneath the veneer of heartbreak and sadness, there is the conveyance of a sense that there is a real effort afoot to replace Biden at the top of the ticket. And this sense is intended to reassure jittery MSNBC viewers that everything will be alright after the “gut punch” the Democrats endured tonight.  As I mentioned earlier: the Regime Media, or significant portions thereof, will now promote Regime change.

Amid a debate question Thursday night asking President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump what they would say to voters concerned about their ages — Biden is 81 while Trump is 78 — Trump responded by saying that he "aced" two cognitive tests and noted that Biden took no cognitive tests. Shifting to his physical abilities, Trump said, "We knock on wood wherever we may have wood that I'm in very good health." He added, "I just won two club [non-senior golf] championships ... to do that you have to be quite smart, and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way." Speaking of Biden, Trump said "he can't hit a ball 50 yards." Then Trump shot back a zinger: 'That's the biggest lie — that he is a six handicap — of all.' Biden's response began with him saying something unintelligible about Trump's height and weight, after which Biden said he'd "be happy to have a [golf] driving contest" with Trump — and then claimed "I got my [golf] handicap when I was vice president down to a six." Trump turned away in mirth, likely because such a handicap is considered excellent. Then things got comical, as Biden turned to Trump in schoolyard fashion and threw down hard: "And by the way, I told you before I'm happy to play golf with you if you carry your own bag." Pregnant pause. Tension was hanging in the air. Biden then challenged Trump with a long, cold stare: "Think you can do it?" Less insane than a push-up contest, at least. Then Trump shot back a zinger: "That's the biggest lie — that he is a six handicap — of all." Biden was well off track by this point, perhaps forgetting what handicap number he just blurted out seconds before: "I was an eight handicap," which invited a smirk from Trump, who quietly retorted, "Yeah. Never." Unfortunately for Biden, the dust-up over golf led to one of his more noticeable verbal freeze ups, as he couldn't get the rest of his words out of his mouth. Trump stepped in: "I've seen his swing, I know your swing." As Biden seemed lost in space, Trump interjected, "Let's not not act like children, Joe." Biden's reply? "You are a child." Tsk. Tsk. Archaeologists with the Egyptian-Italian Mission At West Aswan (EIMAWA) have discovered 33 Greco-Roman family tombs on the side of a rocky hill in western Aswan near the Mausoleum of the Aga Khan. The burials date to between 6th century B.C. and the 2nd century A.D. and contain mummified remains that promise to shed new light on the death and disease in Aswan’s middle class from the period. The tombs were built on more than 10 layers of terraces. No other tomb has ever been discovered in Egypt with that kind of terracing. It had been looted in antiquity, but some of the rock-cut chambers contain surviving funerary objects, including stone and wooden sarcophagi, offering tables, painted statuettes, figurines, terracotta lamps and large remnants of vividly painted cartonnage. The presence of the lamps suggests the tombs may have been visited by survivors for mourning and ritual purposes; the flickering lights would have been visible through the openings on the hill and must have had a striking effect for viewers on the ground. The bodies found include an adult (believed to be a woman) with a child who was around one or two when they died. They were leaning on each other in the stone sarcophagus. Archaeologists suspect they were related, probably parent and child. DNA analysis will attempt to establish what their familial relationship was. X-rays and anthropological study of the human remains have created a valuable compendium of information on life, illness and death in Greco-Roman Egypt. For example, between 30 and 40% of the deceased were young, ranging from neonates to adolescents. Evidence of infectious disease was found in many of the mummies and of some metabolic disorders. Several adult women had survived limb amputations. Nutritional deficiencies and anemia were common. Evidence of tuberculosis and osteoarthritis was found in some of the bodies. The tombs themselves vary in architectural style, with some featuring vaulted entrances and open courtyards, while others are carved directly into the rock. Dr. Ayman Ashmawy, Head of the Egyptian Antiquities Sector, noted that the location of the tombs within the necropolis, combined with the presence of certain artefacts, suggests that the middle class of Aswan Island residents were buried in this area. […] Abdel Moneim Saeed, General Supervisor of Antiquities in Aswan and Nubia, expressed optimism that further excavations at the site will yield even more valuable information about this historically significant region. The mission will continue its work, using the latest technology to analyse the mummies and artefacts, in an effort to paint a more complete picture of life and death in ancient Aswan.
