Texas police said a homeowner chased down a man he believed to have stolen his barbecue pit and then lethally shot him. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that officers responded to a report of a dead man outside of a home in the city of Humble. Gonzalez said that the homeowner realized someone had stolen his barbecue pit trailer so he followed in his vehicle. The man chased down the suspect and confronted him a short distance from his home. Gonzalez said that the homeowner feared for his safety because he believed that the suspect was reaching for a gun‚ so the homeowner shot him. There was a second person in the suspect's vehicle‚ but police said no charges have been filed against them. “The homeowner cooperated with investigators and provided a detailed statement about the incident‚” said Gonzalez. After police finish their investigation‚ the matter will be given to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and referred to a grand jury for consideration of charges against the homeowner. Humble is a city of about 21‚000 people located about 25 miles northeast of Houston.In December‚ a woman shot and killed a 14-year-old home intruder outside of her apartment in Fort Worth in a similar case. She was at risk of being evicted from her apartment when the community donated more than $71‚000 to a GoFundMe account to help the woman‚ who was identified as A'Leah Wallace. "I was forced to defend myself and my daughters‚ and this situation would result in the unfortunate death of a youngman [sic]‚" read a message from Wallace. "This situation alone has been very traumatic for my family‚ but in addition to this‚ I have been evicted from my apartment for exercising my second amendment rights‚" she added.
