Oh my! What have we here? An Islamic prayer session at a ‘secular’ Labour Party-controlled council meeting

A High Court ruling in England has declared it “illegal” to begin council meetings with Christian prayer. But I guess this ruling doesn’t apply to Islamic prayer. Donald Macleod You have to feel sorry for Britain’s poor secular humanists‚ hounded on every side‚ their human rights threatened by church bells‚ crucifixes‚ burqas‚ Christmas cards‚ ‘Christmas’ […]

Clown World! Dealing With Offenders in New York City

Nothing is more clownish than New York law enforcement. It’s not the police’s fault; it’s the leadership. The MTA Take the new proposal to stop the financial bleeding from people jumping turnstiles instead of paying the fare. The biggest problem is the homeless‚ but it now includes business people. Why should they pay if others […] The post Clown World! Dealing With Offenders in New York City appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Pelosi: Russia ‘Connected’ To Some Pro-Palestinian Protests In U.S.‚ FBI Should Investigate

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said during an interview over the weekend that federal authorities should investigate the financing that radical pro-Palestinian groups in the U.S. are receiving because the Russian government could be funding some of their activities. The remarks came after Hamas murdered 1‚200 Israelis during an unprecedented terrorist attack on October 7 that has thrown the region into turmoil. Pelosi’s remarks‚ which she made during a Sunday interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” with host Dana Bash‚ come as Russia has shown a non-hostile attitude toward the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist organization which is due in-part because Russia has become close to Israel’s top enemy‚ Iran‚ to supply it with military drones that it is using in its war in Ukraine. “For [the pro-Palestinian protesters] to call for a cease-fire is Mr. Putin’s message‚ Mr. Putin’s message‚” Pelosi told CNN. “Make no mistake‚ this is directly connected to what he would like to see. Same thing with Ukraine. It’s about Putin’s message.” “I think some of these protesters are spontaneous and organic and sincere‚” she said. “Some‚ I think‚ are connected to Russia. And I say that having looked at this for a long time now‚ as you know.” When asked if she thought that the protesters were Russian “plants‚” Pelosi responded: “I don’t think they’re plants. I think some financing should be investigated. And I want to ask the FBI to investigate that.” WATCH: Nancy Pelosi: Protesters calling for a ceasefire in Gaza "is Mr. Putin's message… Make no mistake‚ this is directly connected to what he would like to see… "I think some of these protesters are spontaneous and organic and sincere. Kornbluh (@jacobkornbluh) January 28‚ 2024 A spokesperson for Pelosi later said that she has “always supported and defended the right of all Americans to make their views known through peaceful protest.” “Informed by three decades on the House Intelligence Committee‚ Speaker Pelosi is acutely aware of how foreign adversaries meddle in American politics to sow division and impact our elections‚ and she wants to see further investigation ahead of the 2024 election‚” the spokesperson added.

Embrace the learning curve: how to get through the ‘I suck at this and want to quit’ phase

Amid the bustle of New Year’s resolutions‚ as you embark on a new workout program or dive into a novel activity‚ remember this: “New year‚ new you” does not mean a complete overhaul. You’re still the same wonderful person stepping into something new. Allow yourself the grace to maintain your worth regardless of the immediate outcome. Consider this new experience a treat—an opportunity for personal development and enjoyment. Everyone starts somewhere: looking for inspiration from fellow beginners Every seasoned enthusiast started as a beginner. Remember that everyone‚ from pickleball pros to yoga fanatics‚ has to start somewhere. It’s easy to forget that even the seemingly excellent educator had to go through their learning curve. Seek inspiration from others who have been in your situation before‚ and don’t be afraid to seek advice. Accept the idea that you are learning‚ and the journey is more essential than immediate success. Asking for help is a superpower: transforming vulnerability into strength Making mistakes‚ fumbling‚ and doing things wrong are all part of the learning process. Accept the power of asking for help—it’s a superpower that propels you forward. Encourage your support system to send you messages or videos that will cheer you up‚ consider taking lessons with a friend‚ or talk to teachers about your nerves. A little self-patience‚ along with a willingness to seek help‚ goes a long way toward making the journey more enjoyable. Plan for comfort Choose a strategy that best fits your current lifestyle and skill level. Make it easier on yourself by choosing activities that are consistent with your normal routine and ability. Strategic preparation reduces initial hurdles‚ whether it’s finding a convenient gym‚ selecting programs that meet your schedule‚ or choosing beginner-level sessions. Realistic changes guarantee that your new activity fits seamlessly into your life. Delayed gratification It’s important to remind yourself that the first few days may not be as enjoyable as expected. Activities like skiing may involve a few falls‚ and uncertainties in any new hobby may diminish your excitement. However‚ don’t allow the initial difficulties to dissuade you. Recognize that competency takes time‚ and a little patience may transform the learning process into a wonderful adventure. Make a visual countdown to the exciting part‚ labeling each step to keep your motivation up. Golden retriever energy Adopt the mindset of a golden retriever: active‚ curious‚ and eager to explore. Forget about being cool and informed. Be the enthusiastic novice who isn’t afraid to start from scratch. Your genuine joy creates a great atmosphere‚ allowing others to feel less awkward and more encouraged in their new beginnings. Navigating awkwardness in non-typical settings If you find yourself in an activity where you don’t fit in‚ plan ahead of time how you’ll overcome any awkwardness. For example‚ if you’re nervous about being perceived as different from everyone else in terms of body size‚ gender‚ ethnic background‚ mobility‚ or anything else‚ then reflect ahead of time on how you will respond. Practicing your reactions ahead of time will help you focus on your journey rather than getting sidetracked by external evaluation. Not all endings are failures: understanding the importance of the learning process Even if your new interest does not turn into a lifelong obsession‚ keep in mind that you have not squandered your time. The process of learning something new is beneficial to your brain. Whether it becomes a long-term passion or a temporary excursion‚ you’re a winner for taking on the challenge and broadening your horizons. The post Embrace the learning curve: how to get through the ‘I suck at this and want to quit’ phase first appeared on The Optimist Daily: Making Solutions the News.
