Geezer Butler recalls why Tony Iommi didn’t want to join Jethro Tull

Black Sabbath became one of the greatest bands of all time and obviously, the group that created Heavy Metal music. But that could have been really different or never existed if Tony Iommi had decided to really join Jethro Tull and be their guitarist. In the early days of Sabbath (When they were still called Earth), when they still didn't have an album, they were Tull's opening act and one night after Ian Anderson saw Iommi play he invited the guitar player to join them. Since at the time, the Heavy Metal had really nothing going, he decided to try but as his bandmate, the bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler recalled in an interview with Q104,3 (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar), that he eventually left the group because Anderson was telling him exactly what he should play and nobody should do that according to the guitarist. Geezer Butler recalls why Tony Iommi didn't want to join Jethro Tull "Yeah, he enticed Tony away. We were a blues band at the time, and we supported them in Birmingham. As Tony was doing his guitar solo, we saw Ian Anderson slowly come into the gig, stand right in front of Tony, and he was just like, mesmerized. "And we were thinking, 'Oh no, this looks bad.' Because we were doing nothing at the time. And afterwards Tony came, when we got in the van, going home, he says, 'Ian Anderson has asked me to join Jethro Tull moving.' 'We've got nothing, you may as well go for it.'" "I went down to London with him because he needed company. And after a week, he said, 'I don't want to join Jethro Tull.' 'Why? You're getting proper wages, you're gonna go to America at the end of the month. Why don't you want to do it?' Because Ian told me what to play, and nobody tells me what to play.' And that was it. (Laughs)," Geezer Butler said. Iommi was part of Jethro Tull only for a few weeks and even played with them in the famous Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. But as you know, he returned to Earth, they changed the name to Black Sabbath and finally in 1970, their groundbreaking self-titled album was released, changing the course of music forever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNvOlyf-JAw&pp=ygUhamV0aHJvIHR1bGwgcm9sbGluZyBzdG9uZXMgY2lyY3VzThe post Geezer Butler recalls why Tony Iommi didn’t want to join Jethro Tull appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Scott Weiland’s widow sets the record straight about his death cause

The photographer Jamie Wachtel Weiland, who is the widow of the late legendary vocalist Scott Weiland, talked about his legacy in an interview with Appetite for Distortion (Transcribed by Blabbermouth). When talking about his death, she wanted to set the record straight about the cause, saying it wasn't an overdose. According to her, the musician's heart stopped because of years of drug abuse and smoking. He passed away back in 2015 at the age of 48. Scott Weiland was famous for being the vocalist for Stone Temple Pilots and the supergroup Velvet Revolver. Scott Weiland's widow sets the record straight about his death cause "I feel like he really does not have the accolades and the respect and the recognition that he absolutely deserves. I feel like when he died, everybody was kind of, like, that's tragic, but, of course, he overdosed, which he didn't fucking overdose, which I tried to get that point across. He didn't. Because he had drugs in his system, the coroner had to rule it an overdose." "But the truth is Scott died because the main artery in his left ventricle was 95 percent blocked. That came from 10 years of heroin use, that came from an entire adult life of chain smoking. His heart stopped. Did he have trace amounts of drugs in his system? He did. Did I know he was using? No, I didn't, because he lied to me, because I had caught him before and it would always be this huge fight and I would be furious at him." She continued: "To be doing this stuff, but to also to lie to me about it… And I remember even talking to the coroner in Minnesota when everything happened and saying, like, 'How could he lie to me about this again?' And the coroner was so kind. And he said, 'I think he just really didn't wanna disappoint you.'" "But, yeah, I really wanna clear up, that was not an overdose — it was not. He was not using heroin. He did not overdose on drugs. His heart stopped because his heart had been through so much abuse because of prior drug use in his life and smoking and heavy drinking," Jamie Wachtel Weiland said. With Stone Temple Pilots, Weiland recorded six studio albums. Besides the two records with Velvet Revolver, he also released one with Art of Anarchy and four solo albums. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JhsUFuqbCM&pp=ygUPdmVsdmV0IHJldm9sdmVyThe post Scott Weiland’s widow sets the record straight about his death cause appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Glenn Hughes says he won’t talk with Glove, Gillan and Paice ever again

Deep Purple's classic line-up, which recorded albums like "Deep Purple In Rock" and "Machine Head", had Ian Paice, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Roger Glover and Ian Gillan. But in 1973 the band changed after Ian and Roger decided to leave. So they were eventually replaced by Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale. With that line-up, the band recorded two praised albums: "Burn" (1974) and "Stormbringer" (1974). Coverdale and Hughes would still record "Come Taste The Band" in 1975 with the band, which was the only one featuring the guitarist Tommy Bolin. In an interview with Guitar Interactive, the bassist and singer Glenn Hughes explained why he won't talk ever again with his ex-bandmates Roger Glover and Ian Paice, and also the Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan. The musician explained that they were very rude with him and Coverdale when they were inducted alongside them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Glenn Hughes says he won't talk with Glove, Gillan and Paice ever again "I will never speak to any of them again, simply because they were rude. Both Roger, Ian and Gillan were rude to David and I. Very, very hurtful. I didn't give a fuck, actually, because I knew they were rude to begin with." "I was the only sober man there. I don't care about those guys. Gillan was rude to me on stage, accepting the award. I went to congratulate him. He looked at me in the eyes like I didn't exist. The guy has a problem with me, period. I'll let him run with it. I feel bad for him. I'm really sorry about his wife (Who passed away recently). I've tried to reach out to him. He doesn't want to know." "I've tried to make some kind of friendship with him over the last 40 years. He doesn't want to know. David Coverdale and I don't exist to him. I wish him only the very best, but I have no time left for that behavior," Glenn Hughes said. Glenn Hughes is currently touring on his own but is also part of supergroups like Black Country Communion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4fDCwDiWJQ&pp=ygUQYnVybiBkZWVwIHB1cnBsZQ%3D%3DThe post Glenn Hughes says he won’t talk with Glove, Gillan and Paice ever again appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

The artist that Angus Young says makes his hair go up

The artist that Angus Young says makes his hair go up

The legendary AC/DC co-founder and guitarist Angus Young is certainly one of the most influential of all time. Alongside his brother Malcolm, they were the heart and soul of the sound of the Australian Hard Rock band, being a fundamental element for their success, although, of course, members like Phil Rudd, Cliff Williams, Mark Evans, Bon Scott and Brian Johnson were also important. AC/DC transformed Hard Rock music and showed that it could be fast, heavy and fun. They sound the same since they started back in 1973 and will never change their sound. But although fans might think that Angus likes to listen to Hard Rock music a lot, he actually loves older acts and he revealed once who is the artist that makes his hair go up when he hears the music. The artist that Angus Young says makes his hair go up That artist is the late legendary Little Richard, who really caused a revolution in not only Rock and Roll, but in music back in the 50s. Young praised him in an interview with VH1 in 2014, when he was asked which early Rock artist that he would tell every new Rock musician should listen to. "I guess I’d just say if you want somebody looking for a Led Zeppelin type, plug in to Elvis Presley. A lot of the early Presley there’s a bit of Led Zeppelin you know? I mean, in Presley, you’re definitely hearing Robert Plant." "And in our case you could probably plug into something like Little Richard, ‘cause he always just went for it. He was just had power-packed vocals and power-packed songs. If I still hear those early Little Richard tracks, it’s like a hurricane. My hair goes up, you know?" Angus Young said. Young said that you could play Little Richard during an earthquake and be happy Little Richard was really one of the main artists that caused an impact in Angus when he was a kid. He not only likes the music but also gives him a good nostalgic feeling of his childhood. In 2020, the musician praised Richard in an interview with Forbes, when he was asked about music as something that helps to heal people. "For me, when you said healing I was thinking back probably to there was a Little Richard live album. And I always remembered Little Richard, one of his little raps before the song. He's going, 'My music is the healing music. It makes the deaf hear, the deaf and dumb rise up and hear and talk.' And he had the voice of gods you know. He had some great raps between songs." "Like when he would do, 'You' and the band would go, 'Boom,' 'You, "Boom, 'You, Boom. 'Not you' (they crack up). So he had all this great stuff. For me, Little Richard, I loved the energy. Still to this day if I want to hear rock and roll and that energy and songs that pack a punch it's Little Richard." He continued: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdM4gSzb_ug "Even when he did that, years later, that thing for that movie, Down & Out In Beverly Hills. He did this great song, 'Great Gosh, a'Mighty.' One of my older brothers at the time said to me, he listened to radio and everything. He came in one day and he said to me, 'Have you heard that track by Little Richard? It just takes you back.' And he was so excited about hearing Little Richard again on the radio again. He always gave me that warm feeling. You could put Little Richard on in an earthquake and I'd be happy." Little Richard was 23 years older than Angus and started his career in 1947, eight years before the guitarist was born. By the time AC/DC was formed in 1973, Richard already was one of the biggest Rock and Roll artists of all time. He sadly passed away in 2020 at the age of 87.The post The artist that Angus Young says makes his hair go up appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.
