Student sues high school for $1 million after being seriously injured during 'promposal' allegedly coordinated with officials

A student who was seriously injured in a car accident is suing his high school because school officials reportedly coordinated the "promposal" at fault. The incident unfolded in April at Arizona College Prep High School in Chandler‚ Arizona. Senior William Vannasap was leaving the campus while driving a motorcycle after classes when he was struck by another student driving a Porsche that was speeding through a red light on purpose. Video of the incident shows the student fly through the air before hitting the ground. Vannasap's attorney‚ April Speelmon‚ says that he was grievously injured and will suffer from his injuries for the rest of his life. According to their lawsuit‚ the other student purposely ignored traffic laws as part of a prom proposal. He was in the Porsche with a girl who he was going to ask to the prom. A school resource officer was waiting with the principal to stop the car after the infraction. The officer was supposed to make it appear as if the student was in trouble and then pull out a poster with the prom proposal‚ according to the complaint. Instead‚ the car hit Vannasap‚ who suffered a traumatic brain injury. Speelmon says Vannasap could have died "by just milliseconds difference in timing." She claims the car was going 40 miles per hour‚ and the impact was so great‚ that the safety airbags deployed. “Those adults at the school should have said‚ 'No‚ we're not going to do this‚'" she added. The officer said in court documents that he didn't believe the driver was going to speed through the intersection but that he was going to slowly roll past it. The principal claimed that he didn't know about the plan and was in the car with the officer to discuss an unrelated issue. However‚ the teen driver told investigators that he had discussed the plan with the resource officer and the principal prior to the accident‚ and they had approved. While the potential lawsuit does not include the student driver‚ Speelmon says they are working on a separate claim against him. Here's a local news report about the incident: Like Blaze News? North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum drops GOP presidential primary bid‚ slams RNC debate eligibility criteria

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R)‚ who had been running in the GOP presidential primary‚ has suspended campaign. The Republican National Committee has been requiring candidates to meet certain polling and unique donor thresholds in order to participate in Republican presidential primary debates. Earlier this year‚ Burgum had offered people a $20 gift card in exchange for a $1 donation‚ a move that helped boost the number of people who donated to his campaign. He made it into the first two Republican presidential primary debates‚ but did not get to participate in the third debate‚ which took place last month. In a statement‚ Burgum blasted the RNC's debate eligibility criteria."The RNC's clubhouse debate requirements are nationalizing the primary process and taking the power of democracy away from the engaged‚ thoughtful citizens of Iowa and New Hampshire‚" Burgum declared. "These arbitrary criteria ensure advantages for candidates from major media markets on the coasts versus America's Heartland. None of their debate criteria relate to the qualifications related to actually doing the job of the president. This effort to nationalize the primary system is unhealthy for the future of the party‚ especially for a party that proclaims to value leadership from outside of Washington.""While this primary process has shaken my trust in many media organizations and political party institutions‚ it has only strengthened my trust in America‚" Burgum noted. The fourth Republican presidential primary debate of the 2024 presidential election cycle is scheduled to take place on December 6 in Tuscaloosa‚ Alabama‚ and will be moderated by Megyn Kelly‚ Eliana Johnson‚ and Elizabeth Vargas.Former President Donald Trump‚ who has not been participating in the debates‚ has been trouncing the rest of the Republican primary field in polls. Correction: The original version of this story mistakenly stated that Trump "has been participating in the debates‚" but should have said that Trump has not been participating in the debates.Like Blaze News? The interest alone on America's debt is nearing $1 trillion — 'We're running out of options'

The interest alone on America's debt is nearing $1 trillion — 'We're running out of options'

The stock markets may have had a good month in November — but that doesn’t mean it’s going to last. After the United States has racked up $20 trillion in federal debt since 2008‚ Glenn Beck believes the next debt scare could be the real thing. Glenn refers to an article titled “The Federal Reserve Broke the Budget. Buckle Up for What Comes Next” by Jed Graham of Investors.com‚ which details the undeniable reasons for the incoming crash. “Exhibit A‚” Glenn reads‚ “in the case of the broken federal budget is the deficit's surge in fiscal 2023‚ which ended Sept. 30. Unemployment was near a record low and GDP growth was strong.” All that sounds great‚ but under those conditions‚ the budget deficit would be more likely to shrink. In this case‚ it doubled to $2 trillion. “After the Fed sent more than $100 billion in interest on its bond portfolio to the Treasury in fiscal 2022‚” Glenn continues‚ “it had to halt those payments last year as bond prices fell.” “Having let inflation get out of the bag‚ an 8.7% cost-of-living adjustment stoked a $134 billion increase in Social Security checks.” About $100 billion then went to FDIC bailouts to banks like Silicon Valley Bank. “To top it off‚ the Fed hiking its key rate past 5% forced Uncle Sam to pony up an extra $177 billion in interest on the debt‚” which Graham believes is a problem that will continue growing by “leaps and bounds.” Glenn sees an end in sight. “We’re going to have a surge. Enjoy it while it lasts‚” he says. 'They walk into sheer terror': Man stabs and kills 4 relatives‚ including children‚ before attacking responding officers

A New York man stabbed and killed four relatives before assaulting officers who had responded to the residence in Queens. NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey said at a media briefing that police responded to a call at about 5 a.m. on Sunday morning from the home in Far Rockaway. "A young female caller stated that her cousin is killing her family members‚" Maddrey said. When police arrived‚ they encountered 38-year-old Courtney Gordon walking away from the home while carrying luggage. Gordon allegedly stabbed both officers with a kitchen knife before they shot and killed him. Police found an 11-year-old girl who was lying on the ground outside the home. She was transported to Long Island Medical Center-Cohen where she was pronounced dead. The man had allegedly set a couch on fire in the home‚ and police had to wait for the fire department to respond and put out the fire before they could search the home. Inside‚ they found three people dead from stab wounds. They were described as 12-year-old boy‚ a 44-year-old woman‚ and a 30-year-old man. Another victim described as a 61-year-old woman was taken to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in critical condition. Investigators were able to recover the kitchen knife outside the home. The two injured officers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and later released. Maddrey praised the two officers. "Think about it‚ they went through their whole night‚ probably went through many nights like this‚ they walk into sheer terror‚ they're walking into a take their lives and tried to kill them and who just killed an innocent family‚" Maddrey said. Officials said Gordon had been previously arrested for strangulation in a domestic violence incident. Relatives said that Gordon had been in mental decline for several months before the incident and had been kicked out of the home of his relative because of his irrational behavior. They said he refused to receive treatment. Here's a local news report about the incident: Like Blaze News?
