Green electricity insufficient - now Sweden is burning oil to the fullest

Despite the government's stated environmental profile, the oil-fired Karlshamnsverket is now running like never before. That the electricity shortage is extensive is revealed by the fact that the oil power plant has not had such a high production level since the winter of 2011 and now we are only at the beginning of autumn.

According to Karlshamnsverket's site manager, Henrik Svensson, the southern parts of the country lack planable power production. In addition, he says that it will take several years before the electricity grid is strengthened and new electricity production is in operation. The situation has arisen after the premature shutdown of the nuclear power plants in Ringhals initiated by the Green Party in the government.

Two blocks have been up and running at the oil power plant during the week. Fuel consumption per block is about 70 tonnes of oil per hour at full load (330 MW), according to Helena Waubert de Puiseau , communications manager at Uniper, which owns the Karlshamn plant.
