A nine-year-old girl was on Thursday afternoon last week subjected to a brutal murder attempt at a playground in Skellefteå. A boy under the age of 15 is suspected of the crime.
- Those involved are children, says acting local police chief Lars Persson to Samnytt.

It is at half past five on Thursday afternoon that the police and ambulance are alerted to a playground at Morö Backe school in Skellefteå. A young girl has been the victim of a very brutal violent crime.

Teenage boy suspected
Forensic scientists and a dog patrol are called to the playground and the police go out with appeals for tips from the public. On Friday, the police manage to call in a suspected perpetrator who is brought in for questioning.

- It is a serious crime, attempted murder, and those involved are children. The victim is under 15 years old, a girl. Then there is a suspect in the current situation, a boy who is also under fifteen years old, Lars Persson, acting local police area chief, tells Samnytt.

- It is a little different legislation we work under. Now we are in the law on young offenders. There are parents of both of these that we must take into account.

However, Persson cannot answer whether the suspect is currently in custody or not.

- If we had talked about adults, the suspect might have been arrested or detained at the moment. But there are slightly different conditions, and there may be other authorities involved in view of their age, he says.

"Definitely not related"
According to Lars Persson, the girl and the suspect boy are not related to each other, nor is there any other known connection between them.

- No, as far as I know they are definitely not related and there is nothing in the current situation that indicates that they should be familiar in any other way either, he says.

So she was exposed to a stranger?

- That's what we know now, but it's too early yet and we have not been able to interrogate the girl.

The nine-year-old girl has been asleep all weekend.

- Her condition must be answered by the health service. Reasonably, they will contact us when the girl is hopefully talkable, says Persson.

The case of the brutally abused girl in Skellefteå involves many on social media. The girl's mother has uploaded photos of her anesthetized daughter to Instagram.

There is also speculation as to who the suspected perpetrator is. According to information to Samnytt, a teenage boy with a foreign background who lives near the playground is singled out as the perpetrator. He is previously alleged to have attacked more young girls in Skellefteå.

There is no information that the police want to comment on.

- No, definitely not. This is a matter for the prosecutor who is leading the investigation. We will not comment on this type of issue, says Lars Persson.
