Eritrean immigrant violence spreads to Norway

Recently regime-loyal and regime-critical Eritrean migrant groups clashed in tribal and civil war-like forms on Järvafältet north of Stockholm. Now Norway is also affected by the ongoing ethnic and political conflict.
On Saturday, the police in Norwegian Bergen were forced to move out and block off parts of the city. This after mutually hostile phalanxes of Eritrean migrants clashed in violence .
In primitive tribal war-like fashion, hundreds of people attacked each other with stones and clubs. Personal injuries have been reported among the belligerents and even policemen are said to have been attacked when they tried to intervene and stop the violence. Perpetrators are said to have also been arrested for violence against the police.

In order to stop the violence, the police were forced to equip themselves with stun guns and gas masks and use tear gas. Several streets in Bergen were still blocked off as the risk was considered high that the ethnically and politically motivated violence would otherwise break out again.
- At the moment it is quite calm, but we are still on high alert. However, no people have been arrested, Lars Morten Lohte of the Bergen Police told Swedish SVT Nyheter on Saturday.

In several countries
Eritrean contradictions have also led to violence in other countries in other parts of the world. Parallel to the events in Norway this weekend, similar scenes of violence also unfolded in Tel Aviv in Israel when regime-critical and regime-friendly Eritrean migrants clashed. Over a hundred people are reported to have been injured.

The same type of proxy civil war between regime-loyal and regime-critical migrants recently unfolded in Sweden and has also flared up here before. They have superficially seen their origin in political contradictions between the communist regime in Eritrea previously praised by the Swedish left and its opponents.
In a longer and deeper perspective, it is about ancient African ethnic tribal wars. The fact that these scenes of violence take place in Sweden and now also Norway is due to the fact that large crowds of Eritrean migrants came here and, together with other foreign cultural attributes and customs, also brought with them the violent internal conflicts of their home country.

The triggering factor this time was that regime-critical Eritreans in Norway demanded that the police stop pro-regime Eritrean migrants from celebrating the anniversary of the Eritrean war of independence.
At the same time, it has been questioned on what grounds pro-regime Eritreans need protection in Sweden, or in this case Norway, and are granted asylum and residence permits here. More generally, it has also been argued as part of the criticism of a flawed integration policy that political and ethnic conflicts from the migrants' homelands are allowed to continue in the new country.
