Electricity shortages in Sweden have become an increasingly acute problem. According to a new report, several municipalities around the country are worried about this. Robertsfors is one of those who are forced to say no to a company due to the lack of electricity.

Robertsfors is a small municipality and 2000 jobs lost are a big loss. Olof Norberg, business manager of the municipality compares with Stockholm.

- It's incredibly bitter. 2,000 new jobs in our small municipality would probably correspond to 400,000 new jobs in Stockholm, he says.

It was an international company that wanted to establish a large-scale industry that was denied, but the name Norberg can not reveal.

Large investments are threatened
Right now, large investments are underway in northern Sweden in everything from fossil-free steel, to battery parks. But this requires a massive expansion of the electricity supply, which Sweden is far behind today.

- Northern Sweden is experiencing a historic new industrialization. It has opened a window with enormous opportunities to create new jobs and prosperity also in the spring municipality. But we are now forced to say no anyway, and that is because the national electricity infrastructure for which Svenska kraftnät is responsible is not enough. It is of course extremely frustrating, says Olof Norberg to Di.

In Robertsfors' case, they were approved by Skellefteå Kraft but not by Svenska Kraftnät, which has the infrastructure. They could not guarantee electricity until 2028, but the company wanted to get started in 2023.

Similar problems attracted attention in the summer of 2019 when Pågen, the ventilation company Lindab, Ecolean and Polykemi were prevented from expanding in Skåne precisely due to the lack of electricity.

"Significant concerns"
