visionOS 1.1 now available with Vision Pro persona improvements

After a month of beta testing‚ Apple is now releasing visionOS 1.1 to Apple Vision Pro users. This is the first main testing version of this spatial computer since it’s been released at the beginning of February. Among the changes are several usability improvements and other new features. visionOS 1.1 can be downloaded on the device’s Settings app. One of the new features is Apple Device Management to Vision Pro. With that‚ IT departments can manage these headsets in the same way they manage other Apple devices. Another change for visionOS 1.1 is the ability to reset this spatial computer if the user forgets the password. This has also become available with the latest visionOS 1.0.3 version. Several users have reported that Apple has also improved FaceTime digital personas and the passthrough image of the real world. Although it’s unclear how much Apple will still be able to improve‚ the company also highlighted tips and tricks to ensure this device captures your best persona. Here’s what you need to have in mind: Digital Persona on Apple Vision Pro Image source: Apple Inc. Capturing won’t start until you’re holding your Apple Vision Pro at eye level. If you don’t start the capture within 15 minutes‚ it’s canceled. You can restart the capture after you put your Apple Vision Pro back on. Find a space with front-facing‚ even lighting so there aren’t shadows on your face. Avoid bright light sources overhead or in the background. Stand or sit in front of a simple‚ neutral background without too many details. Stay in the same location and position during the capture process. Relax your shoulders while holding Apple Vision Pro. Natural‚ genuine facial expressions produce the best results. Alongside visionOS 1.1‚ Apple has also released the public versions of iOS 17.4‚ iPadOS 17.4‚ watchOS 10.4‚ tvOS 17.4‚ and macOS 14.4. BGR will let you know if we discover anything new with this public version. tvOS 17.4 and HomePod Software 17.4 now available with Siri improvements

After a month of beta testing‚ Apple has released tvOS 17.4 and HomePod Software 17.4 to Apple TV and HomePod owners. Here's what you need to know about this mild update. While the beta cycle of tvOS 17.4 was pretty mild‚ it was full of references for unreleased products and operating systems. With beta 1‚ the company added references to unreleased homeOS software. Most likely‚ this software could be used for a HomePod with a screen. Bloomberg and other outlets have reported on a HomePod with iPad integration‚ like an Amazon Echo Show product. Apple is also apparently working on a HomePod with a circular display. That said‚ instead of the current wave animations that we have on the HomePod‚ we could see music and weather data‚ for example. That would come in handy‚ as tvOS 17.4 beta was adding a SharePlay feature for Apple Music. iPhone users could scan a QR code on the Apple Music app for the Apple TV and join a SharePlay session to add songs to a list and create a listening party. Unfortunately‚ Apple removed this function in previous betas. Besides that‚ tvOS 17.4 RC also hints at a new HomePod with a screen. 9to5Mac‘s Filipe Espósito found references to an upcoming HomePod with a screen‚ which is in an “advanced stage of development.” According to Espósito‚ here’s what he could find with tvOS 17.4 beta: This unreleased device is identified as Z314 It is powered by an A15 Bionic chip (which both the newest Apple TV 4K and the iPad mini 6 also are) tvOS 17.4 beta 3 adds support to new SwiftUI frameworks for the HomePod‚ including a tool used to debug unresponsive UI in iOS apps. This all leads the journalist to believe Apple is indeed working on a HomePod with a screen. Image source: José Adorno for BGR In addition‚ with HomePod Software 17.4 RC‚ Apple added a new feature for Siri. According to the release notes‚ "This update enables Siri to learn your preferred media service‚ so you no longer need to include the name of the media app in your request." With that‚ if you use Pandora or YouTube Music‚ you don't need to ask the HomePod to play a song on that streaming‚ as Siri will understand this is where you usually listen to songs. watchOS 10.4 now available with 6 key upgrades

Today‚ Apple is releasing watchOS 10.4 to Apple Watch users. After a minor update available with watchOS 10.3‚ this new version has several new features‚ including important tweaks. The first of them is the addition of 28 new emojis. Although the new figures include a lime‚ shaking heads‚ a phoenix‚ and four new gender-neutral family emojis intended to be represented via silhouettes‚ skin tone modifiers and gender variants represent the majority of new emojis. They can be used in iMessage and other messaging apps with your Apple Watch. Besides that‚ watchOS 10.4 adds a new tweak for Apple Vision Pro users. Since both devices rely on double-tap gestures‚ you can now turn on the Ignore Double Tap setting when using Apple’s spatial computer. Here’s how Apple describes this feature: “When this is on‚ the double tap gesture will be temporarily ignored while using Vision Pro.” Image source: Apple Inc. For those unaware‚ pinching your fingers is the way you control Apple Vision Pro‚ but if you double tap your fingers‚ this is also how you can control Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. Thankfully‚ the owners of both newer Apple Watches and Vision Pro won’t have this issue for longer. watchOS 10.4 also brings improvements to Siri‚ as you can now wake the personal assistant with only its name by saying “Siri” instead of “Hey Siri.” In addition‚ Siri can read incoming messages in multiple languages‚ including Spanish‚ Portuguese‚ French‚ German‚ and more. Apple has also added the following changes with watchOS 10.4: Tap to Show Full Notification setting now allows you to double tap to expand the notification Using Apple Pay with Confirm with AssistiveTouch will require a passcode for additional security and will not support double clicking the side button Resolves an issue that causes some users to experience false touches on the display Fixes an issue that prevents contacts from syncing to Apple Watch for some users BGR will let you know if we discover anything new on watchOS 10.4. Apple is making it easier to switch from iPhone to Android in the EU

Apple will soon give iPhone users a more straightforward way to switch to Android in the EU. With the Digital Markets Act now in effect in the region‚ a new document outlines a few other changes the Cupertino firm will add in the coming months and years. The compliance document published by Apple (and spotted by The Verge) shows the company plans a "browser switching solution" to transfer data between browsers on the same iPhone until early the end of 2024. The document says: Apple also plans to enable users to completely delete Safari from iOS‚should they wish to do so. Apple aims to make this option available by the end of 2024 With that‚ not only will users be able to change the default browser on iOS‚ but even forget that Safari was ever an option (Microsoft Edge supremacy). In addition to that‚ the company explains that it "plans to make further changes to its user data portability offering." Currently‚ Google offers a tool to help iPhone users switch to Android‚ although some data is still left behind‚ such as apps downloaded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOPGilMgzOI Apple states that it plans to make this solution available by fall 2025: Apple plans to make further changes to its user data portability offering. Third parties offermigration solutions that help users transfer data between devices with different operatingsystems. To build on those options‚ Apple is developing a solution that helps mobileoperating system providers develop more user-friendly solutions to transfer data from aniPhone to a non-Apple phone. Apple aims to make this solution available by fall 2025.Apple is also creating a browser switching solution for exporting and importing relevantbrowser data into another browser on the same device. Apple aims to make this solutionavailable by late 2024/early 2025 With these changes‚ it will be easier for some iPhone users to leave Apple's walled garden and move to Android. That said‚ it's likely that the opposite could also be true. Still‚ it's unclear if this change will be available outside the EU or only for the region. If you live in Europe‚ iOS 17.4 gives the first steps to an open iPhone and App Store‚ with sideloading availability‚ third-party stores‚ third-party payment systems‚ and more.
