Jewel has faced a lifetime of psychological and physical abuse as well as homelessness and depression. But at nearly 50, she’s finally found peace and love within herself. “I’m more inspired now than I’ve ever been in my life. The most since I was like 19 or 20 years old,” she told PEOPLE. “I’m just happy.” Jewel has been open about her childhood and adult struggles throughout her career. The Grammy-nominated songstress grew up in “a very traditional Morman family” that fell apart after her mother left her father. Jewel’s father suffered from Vietnam War-related PTSD, and when his wife left, he fell into alcoholism, which caused him to be aggressive and physically abusive. So Jewel’s only option was to leave, which sparked decades of struggles. She was left completely broke, and her car, which she had been living in, was stolen. So, she had to live on the streets. Jewel Is Focused On Well-Rounded Mental Health Fortunately, Jewel never gave up on a better life, and she pursued her recording dreams. Her road to success was paved with similar trauma, but in 1995, she dropped her first album, Pieces of You, which landed on the Billboard Top 200 and produced several chart-topping singles. Despite finding success and security, Jewel was left with unprocessed emotional trauma, which led to a failed marriage, and depression. The singer admitted that finding peace was a long-uphill battle dotted with hard-hitting blows such as finding her bearings as a single mom and learning her own mother embezzled $100 million from her. Jewel never stopped focusing on her mental health, even when she hit her lowest moments. And she’s thankful for her resilience today because she’s finally experiencing happiness. “For me, mental health and emotional well-being is a side effect of our three spheres working in harmony,” she continued. “And suffering is a side effect if they aren’t.” The Foolish Games artist refused to comment on her romance with Kevin Costner, and she was adamant that relationships would never be her true source of joy. The common thought that wolves howl at the moon is a misconception. A wolf uses its howl as a form of communication within its pack. The sound may be a rallying call to its brethren to gather for a hunt or a sign to let others know they are encroaching on the pack’s territory. We’re not sure what these sleepy wolves were saying, but they did not want to put much effort into the conversation. Although wolves may howl at night, they are not addressing the moon goddess, Luna. A wolf has different howls for different circumstances, much like humans use different words to convey meaning. A wolf howl is almost like echolocation. The pack uses howls to communicate, and the sound can resonate for six to seven miles. When A packmate is lost, they can use howls to reunite with their family. They are alert enough to return the wolf howl within seconds of hearing a howl in the distance. However, they are unwilling to expend much effort into getting up to explore the source of the call. A toddler had an adorable run-in with an ostrich while his parents drove through a safari park, and he was so overwhelmed with happiness that he burst into the best uncontrollable laughter. Lovingly named “Officer Donut,” this kitty got the job a year ago when he started hanging out at the police department every day. Although he already had a family, they decided he’d be much happier in a new home. His fellow officers loved having him around! Of course, before this police cat could begin working at the department, he had to get chipped and neutered at the vet. Everyone contributed to the kitty’s medical expenses. Once this was taken care of, Officer Donut got right to work! Some of his duties included patrolling the cop cars for treats and climbing onto the computer while his coworkers entered their reports. The Kentwood Police Department in Michigan took in Donut for a year, making him the leader of their "feline unit." In fact, she thinks Grandpa Norman’s emails are so heartwarming, she just had to share some of her favorites on TikTok. We think they’re pretty cute, too! In this grandpa’s emails to his loved ones, it’s clear to see that he’s an incredibly generous person. Many of his messages are about clothing or food items he wants to offer to his family members. For example, when he had special jackets for his 90th birthday, the elderly man was quick to ask if anyone wanted one. He even included a photo of himself modeling the garment.
