Sen. Josh Hawley Puts DHS On Notice after MRC Bombshell Revelations

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) demanded answers from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas following MRC Free Speech America’s bombshell report uncovering how the agency used taxpayer funds to censor conservatives. MRC released a report Wednesday exposing how the DHS awarded $700‚000 in anti-terrorism grant money to the University of Rhode Island’s Media Education Lab (the “Rhode Island Lab”) to promote censorship and leftist propaganda in America’s classrooms. “This is an outrageous use of federal funds and abuse of power‚” Hawley rebuked in a press release detailing his letter to Mayorkas. As MRC Free Speech America previously reported‚ the university wielded the grant to train educators to use censorship tools to silence right-leaning views in their classrooms. In addition‚ the grant was engineered to pay activists to write blog content promoting left-wing propaganda. It even paid students up to $1‚000 to make social media posts promoting so-called “media literacy.” Hawley didn’t pull any punches. “This amounts to the use of government funds to further President Biden’s political agenda‚” the senator accused. “All these funds should be clawed back by the federal government immediately‚ and anyone involved in making this grant should be fired.”  While the Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) grant program is intended to target violence and terrorism‚ Hawley noted in the letter‚ it was egregiously funding efforts to “counter” conservative voices and opinions. The senator further pointed to information uncovered by previous MRC research on a DHS TVTP grant to the University of Dayton‚ which produced the now-notorious “Pyramid of Far-Right Radicalization.” The pyramid put Christians‚ conservatives and Republicans on a radicalization scale that also included militant Nazis. Targeted groups included Breitbart‚ Christian Broadcasting Network‚ the Heritage Foundation‚ and the National Rifle Association. “There appears to be a pattern of funneling taxpayer dollars through the TVTP program to disparage conservatives‚” Hawley criticized. Hawley accused the Biden administration of weaponizing government against free speech and cited Fifth Circuit Court findings in the landmark Missouri v. Biden free speech case. The same case cited research from MRC’s unique CensorTrack.org database “Now‚ we are learning that the Biden Administration has been outsourcing so-called counter-propaganda to private liberal entities‚” Hawley wrote in the letter. “You should claw back all funds provided to entities to combat so-called misinformation and ensure this never happens again.” He requested information about DHS/TVTP grants and the entities involved. The MRC’s latest report exposing the DHS’ antics is the second in a two-part investigation showing how the government weaponized its power to target speech unfavorable to Biden’s leftist political agenda. MRC revealed in part one how the State Department provided 700 educators with censorship tools like leftist website rating systems from NewsGuard and Ad Fontes to brainwash students against right-leaning news sources. The Rhode Island Lab also hosted a year-long series of State Department seminars in Germany to train teachers to indoctrinate students with  European-style socialist ideas‚ all at the expense of the American taxpayer. Gayle King‚ Charles Barkley Blast Nikki Haley; ‘America Was Built on Racism‚’ ‘Slavery’

Wednesday night on their low-rated CNN show King Charles‚ CBS Mornings co-host and Democratic donor Gayle King and the NBA on TNT’s Charles Barkley blasted 2024 Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley for her claim that America’s never been a racist country. However‚ the two went further with predictably liberal‚ 1619 Project tropes that “America was built on” both “racism” and “slavery.” As Hillsdale College’s David Azerrad wrote in an compendious essay for Real Clear Public Affairs in 2020‚ this notion “is the great self-evident truth of the left and of the ruling class whose moral opinions are shaped by it” and wielded as “their most powerful political weapon” to lucrative financial benefits.     The show began with the two on the streets of Manhattan asking passerby what they made of “Nikki Haley sa[ying] this country has never been racist.” Not surprisingly‚ two of the three screamed leftist loons. After one woman merely said “that’s not right‚” another woman gave the eye-rolling anti-American answer that “[t]here’s been a history of racism in the United States and‚ unfortunately‚ it continues today.” The third and final person was a younger man‚ who said not only was that “completely false‚” but that America “was built on racist policies.” Reacting back in studio‚ Barkley started with some sarcasm: I’ve been having a hard time trying to decide who I’m going to vote for. So‚ Nikki Haley is the leader in the clubhouse because — because she’s a hundred percent correct. If you forget about slavery‚ Jim Crow‚ segregation‚ anti-Semitism‚ Asian hate that’s been going on in this country‚ America has been smooth sailing. Pivoting to scorn‚ Barkley said to King’s disagreement that he wasn’t “surprised” by Haley being so “stupid”‚ adding “America was built on racism” as King chimed in that “America was certainly built on slavery.” After the two stated their agreement with each other‚ Barkley tried to offer a more nuanced view that we’re allowed to “criticize” America since it’s “the greatest country in the world” and merely “turn[ing] on the TV” will show there’s “racism” out there. Two different matters‚ Chuck. It’s generally agreed slavery was present and it was such a tenuous issue at the time that a civil war ensued. But calling America a racist country and was built on it flew in the face of the Declaration of Independence‚ the Abolitionist movement‚ the lack of explicitly racist laws today‚ and major pieces of legislation such as the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Barkley and King — two of the highest-paid TV personalities‚ regardless of color — have to keep the grievance train afloat‚ so Barkley sounded off on Haley for saying “something that stupid‚ and that’s just stupid.” “You can’t think that racism doesn’t exist in this country. Right now‚ like I said‚ America was built on racism — like I say‚ segregation‚ Jim Crow‚ segregation‚ even now we’ve got anti-Semitism that’s through the roof. In the last couple years‚ Asian people have been getting mistreated‚” he added as King repeatedly inserted interjections of agreement. Barkley ended the discussion with another so-called joke: “I think that the reason she said that everything is rosy with black people‚ she’d been in New Hampshire and Iowa for the last two months‚ she ain’t seen no black people.” King said she’d “like to see her address that‚” which was ironic considering the guest lineup of Tuesday’s CBS Mornings included none other than Haley. Sure enough‚ King and her team didn’t use the opportunity to read her the riot act. To see the relevant transcript from January 17‚ click “expand.” CNN’s King Charles January 17‚ 2023 10:00 a.m. Eastern CHARLES BARKLEY: We've got a couple questions for you. GAYLE KING: Nikki Haley said this country has never been racist. FEMALE PASSERBY #1: That’s not right. FEMALE PASSERBY #2: There’s been a history of racism in the United States and‚ unfortunately‚ it continues today. MALE PASSERBY #1: Oh‚ I think that's completely false. [SCREEN WIPE] This country was built on racist policies.  (....) 10:05 a.m. Eastern KING: Charles‚ we have to play something — I know you all saw this — what Nikki Haley said this week. Roll tape‚ please. NIKKI HALEY [on FNC’s Fox &; Friends‚ 01/16/24]: We’re not a racist country‚ Brian. We’ve never been a racist country. Our goal is to make sure that today is better than yesterday. KING: We asked — we asked people out on the street about that tonight and we didn’t find anyone that could agree with that. BARKLEY: Not anybody with common sense. KING: Yeah‚ we didn’t find anybody. BARKLEY: Well‚ you know what‚ I’ve been having a hard time trying to decide who I’m going to vote for. KING: Mmhmm. BARKLEY: So‚ Nikki Haley is the leader in the clubhouse because — KING: She was a leader in your clubhouse? BARKLEY: — because she’s a hundred percent correct. If you forget about slavery‚ Jim Crow‚ segregation — [KING LAUGHS] — anti-Semitism‚ Asian hate that’s been going on in this country‚ America has been smooth sailing. KING: Yeah. BARKLEY: You know‚ that was — KING: Yeah. I think a lot of people were surprised by that comment. BARKLEY: — well‚ no‚ first of all‚ you can’t be surprised.  KING: I was. BARKLEY: That was just stupid. America was built on racism.  KING: Mmhmm. BARKLEY: First of all‚ you — KING: America was certainly built on slavery. BARKLEY: — well — KING: Yeah‚ certainly that. Yeah. BARKLEY: — but listen you can criticize a country. This is the greatest country in the world. You can still criticize it. Anybody who thinks we don’t have racism‚ you turn on the TV every single day‚ there’s racism.  KING: Mmhmm. Mmhmm. BARKLEY: And for her‚ somebody who wants to be the president of the United States to set something that stupid‚ and that’s just stupid. Like‚ when you heard it‚ you’re like‚ oh‚ can you — I wish I could go back on my TV because‚ you know‚ some people‚ somebody — KING: To rewind to see that you — BARKLEY: — because you can’t think that.  KING: Mmhmm. BARKLEY: You can’t think that racism doesn’t exist in this country. Right now‚ like I said‚ America was built on racism — like I say‚ segregation‚ Jim Crow. KING: Yeah. BARKLEY: — segregation — KING: Yeah. BARKLEY: — even now we’ve got anti-Semitism that’s through the roof. In the last couple years‚ Asian people have been getting mistreated. KING: — well‚ she has a town hall tomorrow night‚ Jake Tapper. BARKLEY: You know what I want to do? KING: What‚ what? BARKLEY: Listen‚ I want all the black people here in New York‚ we’re going up in New Hampshire. We’re going to have the whole audience black. [KING LAUGHS] That’s what we’re going to do and when Jake Tapper said‚ we got a question‚ we’re going to all raise our hand at the same time. If I could get — it’s cold out here right now. If I could get — KING: Some — something tells me there’s not very many black people in New Hampshire‚ so maybe you might have to cover New York. Yeah. BARKLEY: — well‚ I think that the reason she said that everything is rosy with black people‚ she’d been in New Hampshire and Iowa for the last two months‚ she ain’t seen no black people. But‚ you know‚ listen‚ I’m so disappointed that she said that because it’s 100 percent wrong. KING: Yeah‚ I would like to see her address that. We’ll see.

Morning Joe's Bloody Revenge on Trump: Speculates On Apparent Bleeding Hand

If there was one thing that transformed Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski from mere critics of Donald Trump into savage antagonists‚ it was Trump's tweet back in 2017 saying that Mika and Joe had begged to be invited to his New Year's Eve party‚ but he said no‚ claiming that "Mika was bleeding badly from a facelift." The pair's vendetta against Trump has raged on ever since. Joe and Mika got a measure of bloody revenge today‚ speculating about Trump apparently bleeding on his right hand [see screencap] after he emerged from a court session in the E. Jean Carroll case yesterday. Mika asked if the red spots were "Magic Marker‚" and Scarborough played off that suggestion: "Is it Magic Marker? Cause it looks like he has a sore on his index finger there." Willie Geist said it looked like a cut‚ and Scarborough‚ meanwhile‚ played it oh-so-coyly. He was just "wondering" about it‚ insisting‚ "I don't want to speculate." Riight. Legal analyst Lisa Rubin suggested Trump had been banging his hand on the table in court‚ and Scarborough replied "Like a child?" Willie obligingly played the heavy‚ speculating that Trump was "like a toddler having a tantrum perhaps‚ and causing bleeding to his hand." The show did stop short of predicting that Trump would claim the wounds were stigmata‚ confirming his divine status. #SyphilisDon was trending on X (formerly Twitter) and "Vice News" did the wild speculating‚ complete with Democrat strategist James Carville -- who once claimed Bill Clinton didn't have a long-lasting affair with Gennifer Flowers‚ he just groped her in a bar -- claiming Trump has syphilis:  What are those red dots on Trump’s hands? Some wild theories are going around‚ included unfounded claims that he has syphilis‚ with #SyphilisDon trending on X. pic.twitter.com/HvjpOqjfQy — VICE News (@VICENews) January 18‚ 2024 Who's spreading unverified rumors? Vice said this might be Trump getting "a taste of his own medicine" for suggesting Biden's not mentally well. (As if the media didn't give Trump that medicine regularly when he was president.) Here's the transcript. MSNBC Morning Joe 1/18/24 6:11 am ET JOE SCARBOROUGH: One other thing‚ Willie‚ I'm just curious about. Do we have any answer on what's on Donald Trump's -- like‚ Donald Trump has‚ uh‚ his hands are bleeding. Looks like he has a sore -- MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Is that Magic Marker? SCARBOROUGH: Is it Magic Marker? Cause it looks like he has a sore on his index finger there. I don't know. I -- maybe it's Magic Marker. I don't know. WILLIE GEIST: It's‚ it looks like a cut. And that's blood‚ isn't it? I don't want to speculate. I don't know. But was there anything -- SCARBOROUGH: I don't want to speculate. GEIST: But was there anything that happened inside the courtroom yesterday‚ Lisa? LISA RUBIN: There‚ there was. You know‚ there was a point in time during the day where Trump‚ very frustrated with Judge Kaplan‚ banged his hands down on the table. I doubt that blisters -- SCARBOROUGH: -- Like a child‚ you mean. RUBIN: -- or the marks we're seeing there come from that. But could they be exacerbated by that? Perhaps. GEIST: Like a toddler having a tantrum perhaps and causing bleeding to his hand. SCARBOROUGH: Yeah‚ yeah.

UFC champ Sean Strickland mercilessly eviscerates reporter in anti-woke‚ profanity-laden rant: 'You’re a weak f***ing man'

UFC champion Sean Strickland absolutely eviscerated a reporter amid an anti-woke‚ profanity-laden rant during a Wednesday press conference ahead of his fight against Dricus du Plessis this weekend in Toronto. What are the details? Before the reporter could ask his first question‚ Strickland took control and asked the reporter if he's Canadian‚ and the reporter said he is. With that‚ Strickland asked the reporter if he's "part of the f***ing opposition" — presumably in reference to conservatives in Canada led by Pierre Poilievre. The reporter said he wasn't sure how to phrase an answer. Strickland asked the reporter if he voted for left-wing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — and the reporter replied that he wasn't going to answer the question. With that‚ Stickland told the gathered crowd that such an reply signaled that the reporter probably voted for Trudeau. The reporter then attempted to ask his first question‚ telling Strickland that "we've got a pretty supportive gay and lesbian community in this city" and then referred to an alleged statement Strickland made‚ which OutKick said showed up on X in December 2021: “If I had a gay son I would think I failed as a man to create such weakness."Strickland wasn't having it‚ repeatedly interrupting the reporter's question before asking the reporter if he's gay. The reporter told Strickland that he's an "ally" of the LGBTQ community. Strickland shot back‚ asking the reporter how he would feel if he had a gay son‚ to which the reporter said he'd have "no problem" with that.'You’re a weak f***ing man‚ dude' "Well‚ then you’re a weak f***ing man‚ dude‚" Strickland said. "You’re part of the f***ing problem. You elected Justin Trudeau. ... When he seized the bank accounts‚ like you’re just f***ing pathetic."Strickland presumably was referencing the Canadian trucker protests of 2022 against vaccine mandates‚ which culminated in Trudeau's government establishing emergency powers and freezing a number of bank accounts.Strickland was far from done‚ however: "The fact that you have no f***ing backbone‚ and as he shut down your f***ing country and seized bank accounts‚ you ask me some stupid s**t like that. Go f*** yourself. Move the f*** on‚ man. F***ing coward." The reporter pivoted to Strickland's statement last October after the UFC announced a partnership with Bud Light despite the beer brand's disastrous partnership with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney. "You know how I feel about transgenders‚" Strickland said at the time. "I go f***ing hard‚ that's just what I do. I am the biggest advocate of biological females." The reporter asked Strickland if he will use his platform surrounding his upcoming fight to speak out against Bud Light. "Here’s the thing about Bud Light‚" Strickland. "Ten years ago to be trans was a mental f***ing illness. And now all of a sudden people like you have f***ing weaseled your way [into] the world. You are an infection. You are the definition of weakness. Everything that is wrong with the world is because of f***ing you. And the best thing is‚ is the world's not buying it‚ the world's not buying your f***ing bulls**t you’re f***ing peddling. The world is not saying‚ 'You know what? You’re right. F***ing chicks have d***s.’ The world's not saying that. The world's saying‚ 'No‚ there are two genders. I don’t want my kids being taught about who they could f*** in school. I don’t want my kids being taught about their sexual preference.'"Strickland then blasted the reporter again: "This guy is a f***ing enemy. You wanna look at the f***ing enemy to our world? It's that motherf***er right there‚ asking stupid f***ing questions." Finally‚ Strickland insisted he has no problem with the LGBTQ community‚ saying he's in favor of a live-and-let-live arrangement — but also adding caveats indicating he's seen the LGBTQ community demanding more than he's comfortable with of late. "Don't f***ing tell kids about it‚ don't teach that s**t in f***ing school‚ don't f***ing push your agenda‚ don't try to f***ing brainwash people‚ don't try to go past parents ..." Strickland said.Content warning: Language: Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

Levin: Exposing the link between Hamas and Iran

While Israel has long maintained that Iran was involved in the October 7 Hamas attack‚ the Biden administration has gone to great lengths to deny a connection. But the administration's adamant refusal to admit this connection is now being challenged by a recent discovery. The Israel Defense Forces have uncovered a complex network of insidious underground terror tunnels in Gaza. The tunnels are filled with weapons‚ supplies‚ and even a precision-guided missile factory. The tunnel system is being directly linked to Iran. “There’s a very complex tunnel system‚” Mark Levin comments. “There’s air conditioning; there’s a guided missile factory in there — all kinds of stuff. This is where your money and the cement and the fuel‚ this is where it’s all gone: to build this underground terror empire.” The tunnel stretches one hundred meters and was being used to improve Hamas’ rockets and build precision components. The IDF’s intelligence efforts found proof in its investigation of the tunnels that the Hamas terrorists learned under Iranian guidance how to create and build precision components‚ strategic weapons‚ and were schooled on technological knowledge in the field. “So why does our administration keep denying the connection? Because they are ideologically committed to breathing life into the Iranian regime‚” Levin explains. Liberal media concern-mongers about conservative businessman's acquisition of the Baltimore Sun

David D. Smith‚ executive chairman of the media conglomerate Sinclair Broadcast Group‚ has purchased the Baltimore Sun from the investment firm Alden Global Capital for an undisclosed sum. While the acquisition may greatly benefit Maryland's biggest newspaper‚ given the Republican owner's business acumen and his pledge to invest in it‚ liberals are nevertheless miffed because Smith is not a fellow traveler. Fresh off characterizing scalping as white colonist practice and leftist plagiarism as a "conservative weapon‚" the Associated Press concern-mongered about Smith's "very specific political background" and "what the 187-year-old publication could become" now that the Sun is back in the hands of a local owner for the first time in nearly four decades. Among the reasons the AP provided to fear the direction the Sun might take under Smith was his foundation's past donations to Project Veritas‚ "which is best known for making hidden camera stings on media and liberal figures." The AP indicated further that the Sun might dare to criticize Democrats‚ noting that a Sinclair-owned Fox Station in Baltimore "frequently airs coverage blaming the city's Democratic mayor‚ Brandon Scott‚ for gun violence and failing schools." Smith has also had the audacity to help finance a successful effort to impose term limits on Baltimore officials‚ reported the AP. "As a lifelong Baltimorean and reader of the Sun‚ I believe that a free and fair — unbiased — press is critically important‚" Jim Shea‚ a failed Democratic gubernatorial candidate‚ told the liberal publication. "I hope that The Sun will not be controlled by those who want to spread their own partisan views." The AP wasn't the only liberal outfit hyping concern about the acquisition. NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik similarly raised the alarm about the purchase‚ intimating that just as Sinclair-owned television stations have supposedly been "pulled in a conservative direction" under Smith's direction‚ the Sun will also. "I don't think that was any accident‚" said Folkenflik‚ a former Sun writer. "David Smith has given a lot of money to Republican candidates over the years and also to very conservative causes‚ including right-wing outlets like Project Veritas of those gotcha videos and Turning Point USA‚ which is really a far-right advocacy group." The Baltimore Banner‚ the nonprofit Stewart Bainum launched following his failed bid to acquire the Sun in 2021‚ ran an article this week entitled‚ "Meet The Baltimore Sun's New owner: the conservative TV mogul who embraces controversy and profit." In an ostensibly accusatory framing‚ the article alleged that in a meeting with his new employees‚ Smith doubled down on his 2018 suggestion to New York Magazine that print media has become "so left wing as to be meaningless dribble which accounts for why the industry is and will fade away." The Washington Post joined in the pearl-clutching‚ playing up Smith's admission that he hasn't bothered to read the Sun in 40 years and making sure to platform former Sun executive editor Tim Franklin's concern over "whether [Smith] will use the Sun to advance his ideological agenda." To flesh out what his agenda might be‚ Jeff Bezos' newspaper referenced the David D. Smith Family Foundation's donation of $121‚000 in 2018 to the parental rights group Moms for America" as well as the two donations it made to Project Veritas prior to James O'Keefe's departure‚ which amounted to a combined $536‚000. The Post also claimed that whereas the local news industry "has usually aspired to strike a nonpartisan tone‚" Smith's "Sinclair has drawn criticism for integrating conservative and right-wing commentary‚ frequently on hot-button national topics." Franklin prophesied that if the paper adopts "a rigid‚ ideological‚ conservative direction‚" the paper could suffer in the heavily blue region. The New Republic suggested the acquisition might have consequences for black Democrats. "Smith's takeover could mean the paper will soon be forced to mime changes at Sinclair-bought local stations‚ focusing on negative coverage of the state's Black leadership‚ including Governor Wes Moore‚" said the leftist blog. David Simon‚ creator of the HBO series "The Wire‚" which depicted a fictionalized version of the Sun‚ joined other leftists in bemoaning the acquisition online‚ claiming that those who elected not to subscribe to the Sun's middling far-left competitor "are simply complicit." According to the Sun‚ Smith bought the paper along with the Capital Gazette Papers in Annapolis‚ Carroll County Times‚ Towson Times‚ and other weeklies and magazines in the area because of their focus on local news. Sinclair made clear in a statement obtained by Axios that it "has no involvement with the transaction." "I'm in the news business because I believe ... we have an absolute responsibility to serve the public interest‚" said Smith. "I think the paper can be hugely profitable and successful and serve a greater public interest over time." "We have one job‚" added Smith. "To tell the truth‚ present facts‚ period. That's our job." Smith has been critical of the "mainstream media" in town for neglecting issues that actually "affect everybody‚" especially corruption in government. Trif Alatzas‚ the paper's publisher and editor in chief‚ suggested holding the region's politicians and elites to account has "been part of Baltimore Sun Media's DNA for generations. We look forward to working together to make our organization even stronger." Smith reportedly indicated he will be joined in the Sun venture by conservative commentator and nationally syndicated columnist Armstrong Williams. — (@) Like Blaze News? Civil rights laws killed the Constitution

A minor panic has broken out among the chattering class after a few conservative commentators showed an interest in questioning the civil rights revolution and its accompanying legal framework. Liberal and conservative publications alike have expressed grave concern that anyone might question the need for an oppressive bureaucracy that has spent trillions of dollars and wielded unprecedented state power to detect the slightest amount of wrongthink in the public and private sectors. While the ideological core of wokeness may have involved a heavy dose of cultural Marxism‚ the juridical and moral vehicle used to advance the ideology was clearly civil rights law. The fear of being called mean names has driven conservatives away from many critical battles‚ but if the right cannot face the fact that civil rights law has played a central role in the destruction of the nation‚ then the movement simply has no future. Many conservative leaders pretend that if the Civil Rights Act were repealed tomorrow‚ Jim Crow laws targeting black people would suddenly sweep the nation. Christopher Caldwell‚ in his excellent book “The Age of Entitlement‚” lays out the process by which civil rights law supplanted the U.S. Constitution. According to Caldwell‚ the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was adopted in good faith by a then-overwhelmingly white American population as a temporary emergency measure designed to solve the problem of discrimination. Politicians sold the bill as a way to end the ugly practice of segregation that lingered in the South and to help put black people on an equal legal footing. Most of the legislation’s supporters could not imagine how the law would apply to their neighborhoods or affect their children. Voters were in for an ugly surprise when‚ just a few years later‚ the federal government implemented forced busing and racial quotas across the nation. The unprecedented authority granted by the CRA was used to establish a vast enforcement bureaucracy with the power to govern every organization in the country. Government offices‚ corporations‚ and private institutions were required to keep meticulous records detailing the racial characteristics of those they employed or served. Soon‚ companies instituted racial preferences and warped their hiring policies around the goal of avoiding lawsuits based on a lack of “diversity‚” which gave birth to the all-powerful human resources departments that terrorize conservatives today. Basic instruments of employment screening‚ like aptitude tests‚ were banned due to their “disparate impact” on minorities who routinely scored lower despite no evidence of intentional discrimination. This is the primary reason that ultra-progressive universities have become employers' dominant form of legal credentialing. Civil rights law destroyed or curtailed several core constitutional rights‚ including freedom of association‚ property rights‚ and freedom of speech‚ while circumventing the amendment process. A web of executive orders‚ judicial decisions‚ and litigation replaced the legislative process and became the standard by which every organization defined its own policies. The Civil Rights Act‚ moreover‚ played a critical role in the growth of the administrative state‚ where experts implemented their plans for social engineering through the dictates of unaccountable federal agencies. In an era of democratic gridlock‚ civil rights law became the permanent state of exception through which the government could shape society without regard for the Constitution’s limitations. The cause of civil rights was a holy crusade. Anyone who questioned the method of its implementation could simply be labeled a heretic — a racist — and cast out of polite society. Activists of every stripe recognized the power of this new political weapon and adjusted their strategy accordingly. If you wanted to avoid the messy task of convincing the voting public and passing legislation‚ you could instead gain access to the new and more powerful constitution by turning your issue into a civil rights issue. Immigration‚ feminism‚ gay marriage‚ and transgender inclusion made amazing strides by appealing more often to the architecture of civil rights law than to the will of the voter. When the question was put to the voters of ultra-liberal California in 2008‚ they supported Proposition 8 and its restriction on same-sex marriage. Activists responded by bypassing the democratic process and ensuring that the Supreme Court would enact their will through the civil rights constitution. Despite the obvious fact that civil rights law has destroyed the U.S. Constitution‚ many conservatives feel compelled to defend it as a sacred institution‚ which would be laughable if it were not so tragic.Like every cancerous growth of government power‚ the Civil Rights Act was sold to the public as a temporary measure‚ but Republicans treat the law’s enforcement apparatus as the one government bureaucracy that can never be questioned. Many conservative leaders pretend that if the CRA were repealed tomorrow‚ Jim Crow laws targeting black people would suddenly sweep the nation. It’s the same logic Joe Biden uses when he is race-baiting. (“They’re gonna put y’all back in chains!”) It reveals that Republican leaders believe the same thing about their base as Democrats do: Conservatives are all secret racists‚ and without a giant web of government monitoring their every interaction‚ they would revert to their natural state. The sad truth is that institutional racism does exist under the CRA. Corporations hold mandatory training on how to be “less white.” Organizations offer scholarships‚ internships‚ home loans‚ and small business assistance that are all marked “whites need not apply.” And these institutions proudly proclaim their bigoted initiatives as part of a commitment to “diversity‚ equity‚ and inclusion.” Such discrimination exists comfortably under civil rights law‚ as did affirmative action until a few months ago. While we can hope change is coming after the Supreme Court’s ruling on Harvard’s admission standards‚ racial hiring quotas and institutional bias continue. We can debate the intellectual origins of wokeness‚ but what is beyond debate is that civil rights law established a second constitution that allowed a progressive crusade to conquer America rapidly. The Civil Rights Act was a temporary fix for a temporary problem. Instead‚ it has grown and mutated to the point where it dominates every institution. It needs to go.
